Langham author Johannes Van der Bijl has written a unique book called ‘Breakfast on the Beach’ which is a chronological retelling of the Gospels, focusing on the experience of Simon Peter.

As you’ll hear in the episode, Johannes wrote the book after teaching theology to oral learners in Ethiopia, where story-telling is a necessary tool.

Johannes shared about the huge impact the book’s had already, and how the Lord used the Covid pandemic and major health issues to enable the book to be written.

Johnny McClean has been serving the Lord in Thailand for over thirty years. For some of that time, he’s been Langham Preaching’s coordinator for East Asia – a vast region, which has many varied challenges.

During the call, Johnny shared his burden for neighbouring countries where “creative access” is needed in order to go in and train preachers – you’ll hear Johnny use this term in the episode.

On our Langham Live call in March, we were privileged to be joined by Andy Oatridge, a fairly new member of the Langham global family! Last June, he took over from Mark Meynell as Preaching Director for Europe and the Caribbean.

As you’ll hear in the episode, Andy now lives in Hungary with his Hungarian wife and three children, having set up Christian youth camps there. He now leads a bible training centre and co-pastors a church plant.

Andy has a great affection for Langham’s mission and vision and has big dreams for what God could do through Langham Preaching in Europe and the Caribbean.

Our Supporter Development Officer for Ireland Mark Armstrong conducted the interview this time. He started by asking Andy where he was joining the call from.

Alejandra Ortiz joined us on Langham Live lit February from Tijuana, Mexico, where she’s involved in student ministry through IFES (International Fellowship of Evangelical Students). Alejandra is also a Langham Scholar! She is studying for a PhD through the Oxford Centre for Mission Studies (but living in Mexico).

It was a fascinating conversation, learning about why Alejandra felt called to further study, and how she thinks it could greatly impact the wider Church in her region. 

At the time of recording, Mexico had been in the UK news after a major military operation against an important drug cartel. Alejandra shared how her and her family were affected.

On our first Langham Live call of 2026, we were joined by Jacob Haasnoot, the Director of Langham's new branch in the Netherlands! 

Jacob brings with him a wealth of experience, including a number of years teaching theological students in Ethiopia and South Sudan. It was here that he first saw Langham's impact for himself. His college received contextually relevant books for its library through our library grants scheme. This hugely benefited his students.

Riad and his family live and serve in the Lebanon and before starting his current role he was the director of the Langham Scholars programme. Colin Macpherson has worked with Langham for many years as the Director of Publisher Development. Based near Inverness, Scotland, Colin walks alongside indigenous publishing houses around the world to enable good Christian books written by local authors to be published. There are a multitude of factors involved and Colin has been a crucial guiding hand, working with publishers in 40 – 50 different languages

This is such a fascinating conversation as we take a behind-the-scenes look at an area of Langham’s work that might not usually get lots of attention. But the impact of locally written Christian books in heart languages is hugely transformative.

Mary Evans is a long-standing supporter and trustee of Langham with many years of experience teaching theology here and overseas. 

Mary has been on the board of trustees for Langham Partnership since 2010, but her connection with Langham go back further than that, as we’ll hear in this conversation. 

Mary was on the staff at London Bible College – now called London School of Theology – for 35 years. She joined the board of various organisations such as the Bible Society, Latin Link and SIM. Mary has also written several books including commentaries on 1&2 Samuel and Judges. 

As Mary comes to the end of her time as a trustee for Langham, it was fitting that she was asked to reflect back and share her hopes for Langham’s future.

When you last filled up your car, did you have to wait in a queue for hours? When you got to near the front, did they say there was no more petrol left? Well that’s what it’s like in Bolivia at the moment, the home country of this episode’s guest Esteban Améstegui.

In his conversation with Supporter Development Manager Simon Foulds, Esteban shared how Bolivia is experiencing economic, political and environmental challenges.

But Langham Preaching is helping pastors to speak into the problems they’re facing and Esteban plays a key role in the programme’s global staff team. You’ll hear about the many different things he’s involved in and importantly, how we can pray.

At the time of recording, Bolivia was anticipating national elections in mid-August. You can read about the outcome in this BBC news article. Please pray, as Esteban shared, that the newly elected leaders would show integrity and humility.
