  • #11 - How to Start A Mindfulness Meditation Practice

I am often asked, "how do I get started with a mindfulness meditation practice?" So I recorded this podcast which goes over the FAQs and how-to, (plus a couple of what not to do!) - to help get you started. After listening to this, you'll be ready to begin a simple, yet powerful meditation practice that can help you be more present, happier, more engaged, and resilient. I really believe there are few things you can do for yourself more important than taking a few minutes a day to focus on being mindful. It really is the path to better for you, those near you, and indeed the world.

  • Episode 10 - How Mindfulness and Creativity Heals - with Jeff Leisawitz

    IN THIS EPISODE

I've worked with Jeff before and he's inspiring every - single - time.  He gets what's really important and will help you (and me) drive to that lane and stay in it.

Jeff Leisawitz is driven to help people express their truth. Their raw, unfiltered, in-the-moment mess of an experience as a way to not only heal but inspire. And he lives that in this talk as we explore his work in helping people find their voice - find a way to put down on paper (or otherwise) your personal struggles and inspirations. This isn't about fine art or looking good to the crowd. It's about honesty, vulnerability, and courage. You looking for your fire or way to unblock the logjam? Meet Jeff.  Understated and overpowered.

In this episode, I talk with Jeff about his vision, his passion, and work.

Listen up, take notes, and get creative!

  • Episode 9 - Triggered? How Mindfulness Can Help.

Triggers. We all have them. We all know what it's like to "lose it." You get some feedback or criticism and suddenly you blurt out something you wish, in hindsight, you hadn't said. Now, not only do you have to deal with the mess you made, but the angst of losing control. What's that about anyway?

In this episode, I discuss how we get triggered and provide a process for learning how to be less reactive.

If you do just the first tip in this process, it will make a huge difference.

  • Episode 8 - How to Be More Accessible and Authoritative at the Same Time

Most people are not very good at "The Language of Now", which is speaking about your somatic, in-the-moment experience. Yet learning how to express your actual experience is both liberating and powerful. This gives you the opportunity to inhabit your words and imbue them with authentic meaning.  In this way, people will often experience you as more accessible and also more authoritative at the same time. This is the power of the Language of Mindfulness. Check it out.

  • Episode 7 - Creating Freedom

“Between stimulus and response, there is space.

In that space is our power to choose our response.
In our response lies our growth and freedom.”
    – Victor Frankl, Austrian Neurologist and Holocaust Survivor

Mindfulness in conversation is a creative act, not a passive event. When you are mindful in conversation, you have the opportunity to choose a considered response. You literally create the opportunity to have a choice. And isn't freedom all about having choices? There are two actionable techniques in this podcast that can give you choices and make a huge difference when mindfully applied to your conversations. Check it out!

  • Episode 6 - The Power of Wow! - Mindfulness without Meditation

I hear from people all the time that the technique in this podcast is the one that people say has changed their lives in a powerful way. Simple, direct, and available to everyone - the foundational practice in the Langauge of Mindfulness cuts through thoughts, questions, and concerns such as  "what is mindfulness?", "Am I doing this right?", "I don't have time to meditate", "What's the point of not having thoughts?", "Do I have to be a spiritual person to do this?"

ALL GREAT QUESTIONS - which fade into the distant background like melting snow when you practice mindfulness using this method of connecting to your direct experience.

  • Episode 5 - The Art and Science of Difficult Conversations with Kern Beare

"How do we be the people we need to be to have the conversations we need to have." - Kern Beare

This is an amazing story told first hand by our guest Kern Beare (pronounced 'Berry'), who, in coming to grips with Trump's election, decided he was out of touch with some new, unknown reality in America. In a dramatic leap of faith, he and his son packed up and headed out on a month long road trip across the country. The purpose? To have conversations with people on the opposite end of his political beliefs. Listen in to hear the incredible story of what he discovered and how it resulted in a book and workshop that has touched thousands.

To help others learn what he learned from this journey, he created a book and workshop - "Difficult Conversations"   The workshop is free. That's right free. Who does that? I can personally recommend the book as easy to read, inspiring, clear, and backed with neuroscience references on why we get triggered and how to create authentic connection with people holding divergent views.

His mission to help us connect, person-to-person and heart-to-heart, is more than just another workshop you can take - it provides a worthy model that can make a real difference, and we don't have a lot of those right now. And surely, we need them. Timely. Powerful. Field-Tested, Relevant. And free. That's pretty compelling.

    • Episode 4 - Why Mindfulness in Communications is a required college class at NHTI - with Dan Huston

In this episode, you'll hear from Dan Huston who created and teaches the college class on Mindful Communications at NHTI.  Over time, the faculty noted that Dan's students stood out in their classes as more engaged, better communicators, and simply better students!  They wanted to know why, so he trained the faculty as well.  As the staff experienced the benefits of mindfulness first hand, they began to include mindfulness content in their own courses and recommend Dan’s class, leading to expanding the mindfulness curriculum and creating a mindful communication certificate.  It's even a required course for some degree programs including IT!

You'll hear how he got started on the path to mindfulness and how the entire program and textbook grew over time to become the success it is.

      • Episode 3 - The Power of Listening Behind the Story

People love to tell stories but often, embedded in these tales is a deeper meaning even the storyteller probably isn't aware of.   But you can be.

When you listen "behind the story", you hear not just the details of a specific situation, but also our common human struggle. If you then acknowledge that deeper meaning, you can open doors to connect deeply with people, even those you don't know well. Words spoken from this place are powerful and have the ability to shift you and others into a deeply connected place.

In this episode, I talk about listening "behind the story", then speaking simply and directly to people from a place of authentic, natural, connected authority in a way that is both nurturing and supportive.  Ask questions or sign up for our newsletter! Would love to hear if you try this!
