Charlotte and Danny review #HalloweenII the original sequel to #JohnCarpenter’s classic 1978 slasher. In this film, it picks right up from the ending of part 1 and tracks #MichaelMyers pursuit of Laurie (#JamieLeeCurtis) to Haddonfield Memorial Hospital. The body count expands, Dr Loomis goes NUTS, and this could’ve and maybe should’ve been the end for Michael.

We come to the end of our coverage of Midnight Mass on netflix, another epic masterpiece from Mike Flanagan.   Episode 6 (Book VI: Acts of the Apostles) brings us to the titular climax as Easter’s Midnight Mass approaches and Monsignor Pruitt introduces his Angel of resurrection to his parish. 

  In Episode 7 (Book VII: Revelation) we see the impacts of his angel’s resurrection as Crockett Island plunges into a vampiric chaos with the survivors torn between saving themselves and humanity.   In the end we get a third, near perfect collaboration between Netflix and Mike Flanagan after Haunting of Hill House and Haunting of Bly Manor. A tour de force of writing, acting, music, cinematography and direction.

Mike Flanagan’s most personal work to date, Midnight Mass on Netflix is a tour de force of acting and writing and episodes 4 & 5 are easily the best of the 7-episode series  Flanagan’s writing takes center stage in episode 4 (Lamentations) as Erin (Kate Siegel) and Riley (Zach Gilford) exchanges long, emotional monologues about death, God,  and Heaven. Just when Riley seems to be moving forward with Erin, he goes to see Father Paul (Hamish Linklater) and has an encounter with “the Angel”.   In episode 5 we see the after effects of the Riley/Angel encounter with Father Paul helping him transition leading to a final, heart wrenching moment with Erin.   The acting, writing, score, cinematography… everything just works perfectly in these episodes. Midnight Mass continues the Flanagan tradition of greatness from Haunting of Hill House & Bly Manor

Josh Malerman has a  new book coming out on October 12th : Pearl.  Danny, Anchorpete and Josh talk about this tale about a Sentient Pig with Kinetic powers, and go into detail about some of Malerman's other works- Goblin, Bird Box, Malorie, and his Creepshow episode - House of the Head.  The trio discuss adaptations of Malerman's work, including the Massive Netflix hit, BIRD BOX, which premiered in 2018, as well as what future adaptations might look like.
