Welcome to our latest weekly film podcast; The Last Edit #19 - Paths of Glory (1957). Stanley Kubrick's World War 1 anti-war masterpiece is often considered amongst the best film's ever made but does it hold up in 2019? General Broulard (Adolphe Menjou) dangles the prize of promotion in front of General Mireau (George Macready) in order to have him take the German held 'ant hill', despite the great risk to his already depleted and demoralised soldiers. Colonel Dax (Kirk Douglas) is tasked with leading the mission but when everything goes wrong Mireau has three privates chosen to make scapegoats for the failure. Dax defends his men as best as he can from the firing squad, against the power hungry and corrupt officers along with General Mireau. Let's talk film folks...
