Welcome to our latest weekly film podcast; The Last Edit #27 - Blade Runner (1982). Ridley Scott's cyberpunk retrofitted masterpiece has long been an admired cult film. From it's beautiful aesthetic to Vangelis' sublime soundtrack and some truly wonderful performances, Blade Runner has only become more influential over time. Rick Deckard (Harrison Ford) is a retired Blade Runner called back into action to hunt down and retire some dangerous escaped replicant's. The replicant's built by Elden Tyrell (Joe Turkel) to be "More human than human" only have a four year life span and must find a way to extend their lives before they shutdown. General Cao Cao (Fengyi Zhang) manipulates the young Emperor to declare war on the southern provinces. An alliance is formed to counter Cao, led by Viceroy Zhou Yu (Tony Leung). Mrs. Brisby needs to move her sick son before harvest, she sets off on a journey to find the mysterious rats of Nimh who could move her home, saving her son. Isao Takahata's beautifully animated film is another gem from Studio Ghibli, the company which he co-founded. Based on folklore, a little princess is found inside a bamboo stalk and adopted by a humble bamboo cutter and his wife after turning into a baby. The bamboo cutter takes her to the capital to be taught the traditional ways of being a court lady, she then sets impossible tasks for a group of suitors desperate to land her hand in marriage. Welcome to our latest weekly film podcast; The Last Edit #20 - The Killing Fields (1984). Roland Joffé directs a truly remarkable film about the horrifying Cambodian war. Sydney Schanberg (Sam Waterston) is a New York Times journalist covering the conflict with Cambodian reporter Dith Pran (Haing S. Ngor). The U.S. Army pulls out of Cambodia amid secret bombing and troops entering the country. The Khmer Rouge rebels take over while Schanberg helps get Pran's family to safety, he and Pran choose to stay, until the Khmer Rouge demand all Cambodians be handed over to them. Including Pran, who goes through hell to escape his captors. One of the most affecting, honest, frightening and somewhat hopeful film's ever made. Let's talk film folks...

Stanley Kubrick's World War 1 anti-war masterpiece is often considered amongst the best film's ever made but does it hold up in 2019? General Broulard (Adolphe Menjou) dangles the prize of promotion in front of General Mireau (George Macready) in order to have him take the German held 'ant hill', despite the great risk to his already depleted and demoralised soldiers. Colonel Dax (Kirk Douglas) is tasked with leading the mission but when everything goes wrong Mireau has three privates chosen to make scapegoats for the failure. Dax defends his men as best as he can from the firing squad, against the power hungry and corrupt officers along with General Mireau. Let's talk film folks...
