In James Fenimore Cooper's classic frontier adventure story, a disillusioned man of great moral courage severs all ties with a society whose values he cannot accept and retreats to the vast unspoiled forests of upper New York State to live as a simple woodsman. But the bloody French and Indian wars intrude, and Hawkeye and his loyal Mohican friends Chingachgook and Uncas are forced to come to the rescue when two beautiful sisters are taken hostage by renegade savages. Determined to save them, Hawkeye sets out on a chase that leads to ambushes, slaughter, and bloodshed, ending in a climactic confrontation between two war parties. The most popular of Cooper's Leatherstocking Tales, The Last of the Mohicans is an unforgettable portrait of life on the frontier and the end of Indian civilization.

Classic
The classic story of Chingachgook and Uncas, Last of the Mohicans brings the story alive, with great narrative, character development and insights - though culturally and time limited - into the relationships between First Nations and the British and French at the time of the French and Indian War. A classic.

Nice edition for young readers.
Very fine edition for young readers. Very well illustrated in hardbound. No dust jacket but a kid would probably just tear it anyway. All in all a very good way to introduce young readers to this classic.
Classic read

I loved it then
I last read "Last of the Mohicans" when I was six years old. I loved it then, and I got to love it again. It is window into a segment of US history that helped define our nation, minus the spin.
