On the 18th August, 1966, Delta Company, 6th Battalion, 6RAR, fought against a large North Vietnamese and Viet Cong force in the Long Tan rubber plantation near Nui Dat and the 1st Australian Task Force Base. D Company's 105 men and 3 New Zealanders from 161 Battery, Royal NZ Artillery fought for almost 4 hours - we were outnumbered 10 to 1 - 18 Australians lost their lives, with 24 wounded.
