Episode 4 of the LAW Podcast Series features Koen Wanders, Advocaat from LAW member firm Fruytier Lawyers.

Koen graduated in Dutch Private Law in mid-2013 at the Free University of Amsterdam. During his studies he gained relevant work experience at various national and international law firms and at a large Dutch bank.

Before he started as a lawyer at Fruytier Lawyers in Business, he worked for two years as a lawyer at Fellinger Corporate Law in Amsterdam. Koen specializes in corporate and real estate law and advises on mergers & acquisitions (M&A) and all kinds of real estate matters with a focus on commercial tenancy law and real estate transactions. He also gained experience through a client secondment in advising on the development of large-scale solar parks in the Netherlands.

Outside of the law Koen loves cooking, (distant) travel, Ajax and all ball sports. You can often find him on the hockey field or padel court.

He also does not shy away from other sporting challenges; he climbed Kilimanjaro and ran the Amsterdam marathon. Koen is married to Sylke and father of son Gosse.

Episode 2 of the LAW Podcast Series features Leon Loganathan, current Vice-Chairman of Lawyers Associated Worldwide. Leon is a Partner at Ward Keller which is based in the Northern Territory in Australia.

Leon’s legal career began in Darwin where he completed his law degree and then spent two years advising the NT Revenue Office on tax legislation and developing his expertise in stamp duty. During that time, he also completed a Master of Laws with a focus on stamp duty.

From 1997 Leon spent five years in Sydney and one in Brisbane in the taxation division of global accounting firm, Ernst & Young. He headed up the firm’s national stamp duty practice for a year before bringing his young family home to Darwin in 2003 to join Ward Keller.

In his commercial practice, Leon advises a broad range of clients, from individuals to ASX-listed companies. He has both private and public sector experience.

Taxation law, stamp duty and conveyancing are Leon’s main areas of practice. He launched Ward Keller’s conveyancing practice soon after he joined the firm, and it’s grown into one of the largest in the Territory.

Leon has a particular interest in state/territory taxation, and has assisted clients to prepare for audits, make voluntary disclosures, request private rulings on complex issues and prepare objections.

He’s also active in lobbying the Northern Territory Government on tax policy issues through the Territory Taxation Administration Liaison Committee.

As a speaker, Leon has delivered several presentations for professional bodies, including the Taxation Institute of Australia, the Real Estate Institute of the Northern Territory, the Urban Development Institute of Australia and the Australian Institute of Conveyancers.

Leon has lectured in business law at Charles Darwin University and has been an author of the Lexis Nexis Australian Stamp Duties Law Reporter. He is considered a leader in the field of state taxation and residential property law in the Northern Territory.
