Director of People and Organisational Development for Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service, overseeing the delivery of Leadership and Development , Organisational Development, Recruitment, People Services , Industrial Relations and Occupational Health whilst working as part of the Strategic Leadership Team focusing on Organisational engagement, Culture and Values and the development of high performing Teams.

I am also the strategic HR Adviser to the National Joint Council Employers side , looking at all national development of the Fire Service

My previous HR experience has been in local government across Social Services, Education, Highways and Leisure Services.

Outside of work I am a Junior football coach, occasional referee and full time Vinyl addict ( again).

Jonathan Quinn has over 20 years’ experience in the engineering and technology sector. He started his working life as an apprentice pipe fitter welder then went through mechanical to chemical process engineering and worked for major engineering houses for international blue chip clients and from design to completion on international engineering projects valued up to $150 million. He has extensive knowledge of the engineering sectors in the food, car manufacturing, petro chemical, fine chemical and pharmaceutical industries. Jonathan's best field is now in research and development through to commercialisation he has done this with his own companies and helped others from a brief idea to fully working profitable owner operated plants & equipment in a wide range of industries. He is an inventor of patented technologies to recover base and precious metals from a number of waste streams and also to recycle paint waste, carpets plastics and electronic devices in a range of sectors. Jonathan owns a number of companies in the recycling & construction sectors, utilising a range of technologies to maximise profit from waste materials. All of these companies are based on the Wirral and all seek to employ locally. The companies aim to reduce landfill and decrease the carbon footprint by avoiding the need to export products abroad. They also aim to support the local infrastructure by providing raw materials created from waste to local businesses, in turn avoiding the need to import.  These companies offer comprehensive training schemes for unemployed local people, including those with special needs, equipping them with the necessary skills for success in the workplace and helping them to progress towards finding long-term employment.  Jonathan was recently asked to Downing Street to discuss his businesses and their strategies for the Northern powerhouse & NW growth to discuss and receive advice on environmental and export issues in introducing a circular economy of materials into raw material products. He was also recognised as one of the 42 under 42 business people within the Northwest which is a selection of business personalities under the age of 42 who insider media ltd think are the people to be watching.  Jonathan won Engineering CEO at a global business awards and Businessman of the year at the F2N awards, and his businesses have been shortlisted or won a wide range of awards including small business of the year, Innovation business or the year and Green business of the year awards. He recently did a TED talk at the University of Chester discussing his entrepreneurial spirit, and was labelled ‘the Inventrepeneur.’ He has recently become vice chair to the Energy and Environment Forum held at Wirral Chamber and Innovation Director on the Board.

Meet Layla, the CEO and the founder of Urban Paws UK. Layla runs the show with her trusty Yorkshire Terrier Buttons & latest addition Biscuit a miniature Dachshund who regularly pays us visits as ‘part-time office dogs’. Layla founded Urban Paws back in 2015 after a successful career as a reality tv star and model. She grew up in Ireland before moving to Liverpool to study mental health at Liverpool John Moores University. She also holds a degree in animal physiology and has professional qualifications in animal grooming and animal management. She founded Urban Paws UK after noticing a gap in the market for supplying high-quality animal talent to film and television companies and PR and marketing agencies. Layla used her connections and experience as a model to establish herself as an animal agent, and the rest is history. Educated in Liverpool at a Secondary Modern School a pupil with very little interest in education but as a keen sports person, athletics and baseball who always wanted to win I finished as school Vice-Captain 

Plessey/Marconi  Telecommunications :- Twenty years starting on mechanical Engineering as a Toolmaker then moved on to training apprentices and finally as a Personnel (HR) Manager with the inevitable role of assisting with the reduction of the headcount from 20,000 down to 3,500 over a period of five years, to meet the ever changing world of telecommunications. 

YKK Ltd :- A Japanese company in Runcorn with 450 employees manufacturing Zip fasteners and another twenty year role as HR Manager and General Manager, this was a great opportunity to develop the company’s status in Europe from almost lowest output to second best, after Germany. 

West Link Storage and Shipping :-This was a company that I had 50% ownership and I assisted by taking it from a bankrupt status to being part of the group that did a reverse takeover of the Stobart Group within six year period. 

Climbed Kilimanjaro twice in 2011 and intend to climb on Everest 2021 in my 80th year.

On todays episode of #Leadership - what's on your mind? I talk to JAMIE CHRISTON BA(Hons), Chief Executive Officer about his leadership journey at Chester Zoo and more.  

Jamie spent the first part of his career in high street food and retail department store management after graduating with a degree in politics.  He took these skills to Manchester Airport Group where he headed up commercial operations before becoming Managing Director at Exeter Airport in Devon where he managed the transition from local authority to private sector ownership.  Jamie then moved onto take responsibility for on-board operations in Europe of Stena Line and joined Chester Zoo in 2013.  Initially as Chief Operating Officer and since March 2021 as Chief Executive Officer.  He is responsible to the Board of Trustees of one of the largest and most popular zoo’s in Europe.   In 2019 Chester Zoo welcomed over 2million visitors, employed 1,000 staff and had a turnover of £46m.

I’ve been heavily involved in the aviation industry for 36 years. In my private life I flew as a GA pilot for 22yrs but retired due to other commitments a few years ago. In my work life I’ve had differing roles for the last 36 years but a majority of the time has been in developing and delivering training, business management and leadership of our team.

The key focus of my work is the development and delivery of human factor training in both aviation and other safety and performance critical industries outside aviation such as healthcare, oil & gas, nuclear, rail and emergency services. We have clients who receive our Human Factor training in every continent of the world (including Antarctica).
