The scene shifts from palace to the tents of sculptors who are facing hardships due to the lashing rain. They are expressing their agony to the architectural carver Sadasivam, that they would like to quit and return to their respective villages, due to lack of basic amenities.

A septuagenarian lady named Ezhili who helps in sculptor carving by mixing ingredients like lime etc to paint sculptors,consoles them and asks them not to leave the divine work. The author gives a glimpse of her story, she is a strong willed lady very passionate about her work and even though her husband slipped and died during work, while it was raining, she only blamed destiny and moved on with life.

The displeasure prevailing amongst the sculptors and their discussion is overheard by a spy who takes the matter to Brahmarayar.

Brahmarayar takes Ezhili to a devadasi named kariamanikkam and tells them that at any cost temple work should not be hindered.
