About my guest:
Dr. Latania Marr y Ortega, with a recently earned Doctorate of Education from Kansas State University (K-State), is a passionate educator with 19 years of experience. She holds an MA in Language, Literacy, and Sociocultural Studies from the University of New Mexico and a BA in Elementary Education from New Mexico Highlands University. Coming from a family of educators, Dr. Marr y Ortega's career began in New Mexico, teaching in bilingual dual language elementary schools and engaging with the UNM Family Literacy program.
Her commitment to culturally and linguistically diverse families grew during her time in Albuquerque, leading her to transition to teaching secondary English Language Arts in her hometown. At K-State, she collaborates with teachers, emphasizing critical reflection and awareness of biases. Together with CIMA colleagues, she organized the conference "Beyond Envisioning Equity: Situating Teachers of Color Voices." Dr. Marr y Ortega advocates for utilizing the biographies and assets of historically excluded families to guide instruction, addressing injustice and racism in schools, a mission underscored by the challenges of COVID-19.

Prior to founding In Pursuit, Sibil spent 20 years as an award-winning financial services corporate strategy executive.
She graduated from the Executive IQ Leadership Accelerator Program at the University of Virginia, Darden School of Business. Sibil is a CFA and CAIA charter holder, the most sought-after credentials in financial services. Sibil is working towards the ICF Associate Certified Coach Credential (ACC). Sibil’s trauma-informed approach includes training on embodied anti-racism and somatic abolitionism from the Cultural Somatics Institute. She has received recognition for her work in advancing ESG and DE&I initiatives in financial services, including the DCIAA Rising Star Award and Capstone Project Award for prototyping an app to democratize financial literacy for women and underrepresented groups.
In her local community, Sibil is a member of the Equity and Racial Justice Committee at the school district level and the DE&I committee at her children's elementary school. She lives North of NYC with her husband and two children.
