The wrongful conviction of Antonio Chavez and his friend Jose, who were framed by the infamous LAPD crash unit for a crime they did not commit. The community knew of their innocence, and there was no direct evidence against them. Surviving victims cleared them of the crime, they didn't ID Antonio or Jose in the show-up and described the suspects to be between 5’4-5’7, Antonio was 6’3. There were two versions of the crime. The alleged witnesses were coerced by detectives, evidence that they did not mention in their initial interview, was later coerced out of them in a follow-up interview.
Ballistics also proved that both Antonio and Jose were innocent No gunshot residue was found on either of them and it was determined that two of the same caliber handguns were used, despite the false theory of arming the second suspect with a shotgun to frame them with circumstantial evidence unrelated to Antonio or Jose, or the crime. This story is complex, so it's advisable to get a pen and paper to organize the discussed facts:
A simple hello and crossing paths with the young victim would be enough for the CRASH LAPD to frame Antonio and Jose and secure a false life conviction.
