What if your body knows more than your mind does?
Relevant question after having spent some time with Friedrich Nietzsche’s quote:
”There’s more wisdom in your body than in your deepest philosophy”, which (if we should be 100% true to Nietzsche) also could be read as:
“There is more reason in your body than in your best wisdom.”
Anyway, it’s a quote that made us think about the body, the mind, our emotions and our instincts and all the things happening within us without our conscious awareness.
And as usual, we couldn't resist rewriting the quote. Aren’twe just too helpful?
Our new version:
“Your conscious mind knows much less than the whole of you does.”
This week on The Life Club • All the Quotes We Love to Quote,we explore Nietzsche, neuroscience, emotions and a little yogic philosophy.
As always, with Nidhi Garg and Magnus Zaar.

Can it be harmful to do nothing?
This week, we delve into a quote from Stoic mastermind Marcus Aurelius:
“You can also do injustice by doing nothing.”
The quote suggests that inaction can sometimes be as harmful as wrongful action, and that, in certain situations, the absence of action can lead to injustice, not only towards others but also towards ourselves.
It’s really a 360° episode: we talk about karma, Stoic virtues, and psychological experiments (the bystander effect). Full circle.
And, yes, in this episode, we also, of course, rewrite the quote. It’s turning into a (bad?) habit.
As always, hosted by Nidhi Garg and Magnus Zaar.

“Turn your face to the sun and the shadows will fall behind you.”
A very yogic quote, somehow.
Not denying the shadows. Not fighting them. Just not letting them decide which way you face.
Accepting that the shadows are still there, they’re just no longer where you’re looking.
In this episode we connect the quote to vairagya, to pratipaksha, to the yoga pose Utkatasana and even to Plato.
And, even more remarkably, for the first time we also manage to get Swedish poet-slash-rockstar Lars Winnerbäck into the podcast. Referring to his song Solen i ögonen (Sun in Your Eyes)…
“We’ve got the sun in our eyes
and spilled milk everywhere…
...but still, the shadows are behind us.”
It's time for episode 90 of THE LIFE CLUB • All the Quotes We Love to Quote, hosted as always by Nidhi Garg and Magnus Zaar.
Nothing changes. And everything changes.
Same life. But less struggle.
Life may not change. But the way we experience life can.
Lots about vairagya, karma yoga, acceptance and avidya.

How to know when to shine - and when to reflect?
Edith Wharton wrote: “There are two ways of spreading light: to be the candle or the mirror that reflects it.”
What does it mean to be candle? And, not the least , what does it mean to be the mirror? In this episode, we explore the importance of not only creating and sharing our own light, but helping others shine and sometimes letting someone else take the front stage.
Because no one is an island. We need others to reflect, support and magnify what we bring into the world. But being a mirror also comes with responsibility: What do we choose to reflect? And how much is that reflection shaped by our own fears, beliefs and prejudices?

The art of being wise is knowing what to overlook.
Why?
Because what you overlook creates space for what matters.
Just imagine what could happen…
And add to that, some key thoughts:
• Discernment is vital: Knowing what to focus on can greatly enhance our quality of life.
• Clarity of mind: By overlooking the trivial, we create space for what truly matters.
• Active decision-making: Overlooking isn’t passive; it requires conscious evaluation of priorities.

Character is not a preset, not something predefined.
Character can be created.
And therefore, destiny can be created, not by big bold moves and decisions, but through the small everyday decisions.
Like author James Clear has rephrased it:
Every action is a vote for the kind of person you want to become.

Ship ahoy!
What an episode!
Lots of boats, setting sail, navigating the seas… and yes, plenty of very obvious sailing analogies.
But trust us, they're there for a reason.
They help us talk about dharma (…life isn't about just staying safe, we're here to live our dharma) and vairāgya (…if we want to avoid limiting ourselves, we can't stay safely in the harbor. We need to venture out to sea and embrace uncertainty. After all, certainty is not a prerequisite for action.)
All hands on deck! Ship ahoy!
This week's quote: ”A ship in the harbor is safe, but that is not what ships are built for” by John A Shedd.

Thought so. Here's what to expect from this, our longest episode so far?

• Hope and fear, they're definitely not the same. But what does psychology actually say about them?
• You want to know why balance matters when making decisions, right?
• Why do Buddhists say that hope and fear are two sides of the same coin?
• And finally, hand up everyone who wants to listen to a totally new phrasing of Mandela's quote.
• And much more.

In need of an instant well-being boost?
Here’s a reminder from Rainer Maria Rilke:
• Don’t rush.
• Be patient.
• Don’t expect certainty.
• Act anyway.
The quote, “Be patient toward all that is unsolved in your heart” reminds us to not mistake patience for passivity. Patience is not giving up or simply waiting.
And as an added summer bonus:
according to research (and according to a fresh interpretation of Rilke), listening to this episode might even help reduce anxiety.
Not too bad, ehh?
Hosted by Magnus Zaar and Nidhi Garg.
