In this episode, I interview Tineisha Hatten, who is a Head Tumbling Instructor and a full year and Rec Program Coach for Outlaw Cheer and Dance in Massachusetts. Tineisha is also the owner and operator of Cheerportation. We discuss the inspiration behind creating her business, advice she would give anyone looking to create a career out of their passion, and her favorite and most challenging experiences as a coach.
Tineisha Hatten - As an athlete, Tineisha cheered for 10 years starting in middle school all the way through college. She also did 2 years of all-star cheer. Since graduating college, she has been coaching various all-star, college, and high school teams for 6 years. She ran into an issue with a school not recognizing their cheer team as a sport and not being able to use the gym for practice space or use the school transportation resources to travel to a practice facility. In 2022, she created Cheerportation LLC to help cheer teams have an extra resource. Cheerportation also offers services to parents who need rides for their athletes anytime throughout the season in the New England Area.

In this episode, I interview Catharine Dittrick, an Early Childhood Educator and the Head Junior Varsity Coach at Milford High School in Michigan. We discuss how to instill a growth mindset in a youth level program in order to build future generations as well as why it is valuable to develop a strong sub varsity program.
Catharine Dittrick - Catharine began as a middle school cheer coach in Michigan and moved to coaching at the youth level to help develop and grow the Milford Program, her Alma Mater. Catharine's family also grew up in the Milford program. She is going on her fifth year and is the head JV coach at Milford High School. She has experience in choreography for D3 schools in her area and has coached tumbling for their rec program. Catharine continues to help out at their middle school to make it a smooth transition for athletes as they head up to the high school level. The Milford Program had not been to regionals since 1989. In 2020, the long awaited return to regionals was broken and this year (2023) Milford is top 10 in the state consistently week by week. Their goal is to make the state mat once again, as it has been 34 years since the program was able to do so.

Let's TAKE 5! In this episode, I answer the following question:
"I am going to be a head coach next year and this year at my school we added a Pom team. We’re struggling with it I feel like. They do all the material we do and do all of the cheers. There is no difference. No kickline, no “Pom” dances. No nothing.
