Texts: Proverbs 8:1–4, 22–31 | Colossians 1:15–20 | John 1:15–18

We end where the whole Bible ends — and begins: with Jesus Christ, the Word made flesh, the Wisdom of God incarnate. Proverbs 8 says describes wisdom as being present at the creation of the world. John 1 reveals wisdom’s identity. Every thread of wisdom we’ve followed — our words, our work, our families, our pride, our suffering — finds its source and its redemption in him. And we close with a meal: the Lord’s Supper, where the Wisdom of God still gives himself to us, freely, bodily, and without reservation.

Comparison can turn contentment into envy in an instant. Through Jesus’ parable of the workers in the vineyard and Paul’s words in Philippians 4, we discover the secret of true contentment: it isn’t found in having more, but in Christ. When we stop looking sideways at what others have and look instead to the generosity of God, we discover that in Christ, we already have everything that matters.

We explore one of the most important—and often overlooked—gifts God gives us: friendship. But, what does real friendship actually looks like in a world that prizes independence and self-sufficiency? Why does Scripture insist that we need other people? What does it mean for a friend to tell us the truth, even when it hurts? And why is loyalty so rare—and so valuable?

Every biblical description of friendship ultimately points us to Jesus Christ, the Friend who remained faithful when everyone else failed, who spoke the truth in love, and who laid down His life for His friends.

“Pride goes before the fall” is one of the most quoted lines in any language. But Proverbs — and Jesus — go much deeper than a warning against arrogance. Pride is the root of sin: the posture of the self - trusting in your own judgment and needing no one else, least of all God. The Pharisee in Luke 18 is not a monster — he’s familiar. Yet the tax collector goes home justified. Not because of his humility, but because of God’s mercy. The solution? Beholding the one who emptied himself for us.

This week we look at marriage, parenting, and the household of faith: what it means to build a home around the Word of God, to love imperfectly and be covered by grace, and to raise children not as our greatest achievement but as God’s gift entrusted to our care.

Proverbs is relentless about speech — gossip, flattery, angry words, lies, and also the life-giving power of honest, kind conversation. Jesus says our words reveal the state of our hearts, and the same Jesus who will judge our careless words has already spoken the words that forgive them.

What is wisdom, really? We live in a world drowning in advice — and still hungry for something more. Wisdom is not a system to master, it’s a person to receive. When Jesus says “something greater than Solomon is here,” he’s not just making a comparison — he’s making an invitation. The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and the Lord himself has come to find us.

How can we possibly live out what Jesus calls us to do? The answer is not found in our strength—but in the gift of the Holy Spirit. As the Spirit is poured out in Acts 2, we are reminded that God does not send us alone, neither is faith is  something we sustain on our own, but something God gives and preserves. This is the fourth and final week of “Sent."
