In this video, Jiawen discusses, from the Mahayana perspective, how the Buddha had actually already begun to turn the Dharma Wheel while sitting under the Bodhi tree in meditation. The first sutra that the Buddha expounded was actually the Avatamsaka Sutra (which also includes the Pure Land practice). She has also explained the five periods of the Buddha’s teachings here.
