Few relationships have a greater impact on the health of a local congregation than the relationship between its elders and preacher. When trust and communication are strong, the church benefits. But when tension or mistrust develops, the effects can reach far beyond the men involved.
In Part One of this two-part Authentically Adam conversation, Wayne is joined by Cory Waddell, local preacher for the Bear Valley Church of Christ, to examine where tension between elders and preachers comes from.
How do preachers sometimes contribute to the problem? How can elders unintentionally create frustration or uncertainty? Wayne and Cory discuss expectations, communication, differing perspectives, and the challenges that can develop when relationships are neglected.
Elders and preachers have different responsibilities and roles—but they serve the same Lord, same church, and same mission.

Forgiveness is one of the most difficult things we are called to practice, especially within marriage. In this episode of Wifey Wednesdays, we look at what it means to forgive when the person who has hurt us is also the person closest to us—the one who knows us most deeply and has the greatest access to our hearts and lives. From everyday hurts and moments of poor judgment to deeper wounds caused by intentional words, deception, rejection, or other sin, forgiveness can feel costly. Yet Jesus’ words remind us that “with the measure you use it will be measured back to you,” challenging us to remember just how much forgiveness we ourselves continually receive from God.
We also consider the difference between forgiving and forgetting. We may not be able to control what our minds remember, but we can choose what we do with those memories. Forgiveness means refusing to nurture bitterness, choosing love and kindness, and continually surrendering past hurts to God. Ephesians 4:32 calls us to forgive “as God in Christ forgave you”—not begrudgingly, but with the kind of tenderheartedness we have received from Him. Through the work of the Spirit, we can continue choosing forgiveness, even when it is difficult, because God’s ways are always worth choosing over what feels easiest in the moment.

Today, Andrew takes a backseat to let others speak. While you may be hearing his voice, a lot of what you will hear is not his words, but the words of mothers who have suffered from Post-Partum Depression. Listen as these sisters in Christ speak about their struggles and offer advice to others.
Grief is something every preacher encounters—not only in the lives of the people we serve, but eventually in our own lives as well. How can we better walk alongside those who are grieving? And what happens when the preacher becomes the one who needs comfort?
Robert is joined by longtime gospel preacher and publisher Paul Sain for a personal conversation about grief. Drawing from his own experiences of walking alongside his wife, LaDon, through Alzheimer’s disease and ultimately through the pain of losing her, Paul shares lessons he has learned about sorrow, caregiving, encouragement, and the importance of simply being present for people who hurt.
This conversation offers encouragement for preachers who regularly minister to grieving families while also reminding us that ministers are not immune to grief themselves. Sometimes the person who spends so much time comforting others must learn how to receive comfort, too.
