The resurrection of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ is absolutely foundational to our faith. And thus, it is constantly under attack. As born again believers, we must not allow the mockery and ridicule of a world hostile to the righteousness of God to make us feel ashamed of the Gospel of a resurrected Christ.
Our faith is so under attack because it is the one true faith in the only true and living God who created the universe. His Son is Jesus, who died for our sins, and who was raised for our justification. The mere fact that our faith is so attacked should tell you that it is the truth. If a world 2,000 years ago was so hostile to a perfectly innocent, miracle working, loving, giving, and forgiving Lord, then why should it surprise us that a world that is more wicked than ever is constantly attacking what we believe about Him?
I tell you the truth, and I say it without reservation. Jesus Christ is the way, the truth, and the life. And no one comes to the Father in heaven accept by Him! And whoever refuses to trust in Him already has the wrath of God abiding on them. And if they die without trusting in Him, all that is left for them is judgment and eternal damnation. We need not be ashamed of the Good News that offers sinners salvation from eternal torment. Yes, we absolutely know the truth! JESUS CHRIST IS RISEN!
This is part two of our Passion Week series, “A Dying Son. A Rising Savior”
In 1 Corinthians 15, the apostle Paul wrote…
3 For I delivered to you first of all that which I also received: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, 4 and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures, 5 and that He was seen by Cephas, then by the twelve. 6 After that He was seen by over five hundred brethren at once, of whom the greater part remain to the present, but some have fallen asleep. 7 After that He was seen by James, then by all the apostles. 8 Then last of all He was seen by me also, as by one born out of due time.
The Case for Christ author Lee Strobel gives an account of a conversation he once had with a friend of his who was a psychologist. He says, “I went to a psychologist friend and said if 500 people claimed to see Jesus after He died, it was just a hallucination. He said hallucinations are an individual event. If 500 people have the same hallucination, that’s a bigger miracle than the resurrection.”
The hallucination theory is just one of the various historical attacks on our faith which are directly aimed at this most critical aspect of true Christianity. But saints, Jesus Christ is risen whether the world likes it or not. And the burden of proof to the contrary is on them, not us.
Further on in 1 Corinthians 13, Paul wrote…
12 Now if Christ is preached that He has been raised from the dead, how do some among you say that there is no resurrection of the dead? 13 But if there is no resurrection of the dead, then Christ is not risen. 14 And if Christ is not risen, then our preaching is empty and your faith is also empty. 15 Yes, and we are found false witnesses of God, because we have testified of God that He raised up Christ, whom He did not raise up—if in fact the dead do not rise. 16 For if the dead do not rise, then Christ is not risen. 17 And if Christ is not risen, your faith is futile; you are still in your sins! 18 Then also those who have fallen asleep in Christ have perished. 19 If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men the most pitiable.
Leave it to God’s word to give the Devil and his followers ammunition. But that’s what is so awesome about our God. He doesn’t have to hide things or worry about what the enemy would do with such valuable information as what our faith stands or falls by.
