Ever wonder why some business owners seem to get referrals without even asking, while others struggle to get their name mentioned? Being great at what you do is important, but it's not always enough. When someone recommends you, they're putting their own reputation on the line. So what makes them confident enough to say, “I know exactly who you need to call”?
Getting more referrals isn't about constantly reminding people you need business. It's about becoming someone people trust, remember, and feel good recommending. From the little things that build (or break) credibility to making it easy for others to recognize your ideal client, Donna and Tiffany share what really makes people want to send opportunities your way—and what makes them want to do it again.

What if the reason people aren't seeing your value is that you're not fully owning it yourself? Whether you're introducing yourself at a business event, talking with a potential client, or explaining what you do, the words you choose can make a bigger impression than you realize. And if you're constantly saying “I'm just…” or downplaying your accomplishments, you could be making it harder for people to recognize why you're the right choice.
Donna and Tiffany welcome author and speaker Kate Woodward Young to talk about her book, Authority Without Apology. Kate challenges the idea that you need another degree, a bigger title, or a louder personality to be taken seriously. You'll discover how to communicate your expertise without bragging, confidently own the value you bring, and show up in ways that help others recognize what you're capable of.

What if the relationships you’re building today could open doors for you years from now? After reading Tiffany’s book, Networking Your Way to the Big Stage: How to Multiply Your Opportunities, Donna wanted to know more—not only about why her co-host decided to write it, but about the networking experiences behind it and why she believes the lessons are so valuable for anyone trying to create bigger opportunities.
From accidentally introducing herself with “free beer” (and hearing about it for the next five years) to nearly giving up on her business right before years of relationship-building began to pay off, Tiffany shares some of the experiences that shaped the book. But Donna points out something else she loved: Tiffany didn’t want people to simply read the book, close it, and move on. Each chapter gives you space to pause, reflect on your own networking, and take action on what you’ve learned. Because knowing how to network is one thing—actually putting it into practice is what can change where your relationships take you.

Wondering why more referrals aren’t coming your way - even when people know you, like you, and enjoy working with you? The problem may not be the quality of your work. It could be how clearly people understand what you do, how confident they feel putting their reputation behind your name, or how easy you’ve made it for them to connect you with the right person.
We’re breaking down the biggest barriers that keep referrals from happening and the small changes that can make you much easier to recommend. From getting specific about who you help to building trust over time and giving your network the words they need to refer you, you’ll walk away with practical ways to turn strong relationships into more opportunities.

Where should you actually invest your time and money to grow your business? Advertising, social media, podcasting, and networking can all play a role—but they don’t accomplish the same thing. We’re breaking down what each does well, where it can fall short, and why trying to be everywhere at once may not be the best strategy for your business.
The simplest way to look at it? Advertising gets attention. Social media builds awareness. Podcasting builds authority. Networking builds trust. And trust is usually what turns visibility into actual business. We’re sharing how we prioritize our own marketing efforts, why relationships can amplify everything else you’re doing, and how to decide where your limited time, energy, and marketing dollars can make the biggest impact.

Thinking about a career change, launching something new, or adding a new direction to your business? Don’t keep it a secret until everything is perfect. Your network can offer feedback, make introductions, open doors, and even become some of your first clients—but only if they know where you’re headed.
We’re sharing personal stories about leaning on our networks through career changes, business pivots, and new opportunities—including how existing relationships led to Donna’s first real estate listings and an unexpected connection that could help Tiffany with her move into public speaking. You don’t need the perfect website, polished pitch, or big announcement first. Sometimes simply telling people what you’re working toward is what creates the opportunity.

Need help moving? You might want to rethink who you ask... because as Donna and Tiffany agree, helping someone move is a pretty big favor. We laughed about it, but there's a serious lesson behind the joke. Learn how to ask for help in a way that feels respectful, thoughtful, and never transactional—and discover the three things every request should include. You might even find that asking the right person is a compliment, giving them the chance to share their expertise and make a meaningful impact.
The right request can strengthen a relationship instead of straining it. We're sharing practical ways to ask with confidence, give people room to say no, and follow up with gratitude so your network grows stronger with every interaction. Because networking isn't about doing everything alone—it's about knowing how to ask the right way.

It was the perfect reminder that networking isn't about saying more—it's about making people feel seen, heard, and valued. The good news? Most networking mistakes are easy to fix once you recognize them. We're sharing simple habits that help you build trust, create stronger business relationships, and become someone people genuinely want to recommend. Because the best networkers aren't the loudest people in the room—they're the ones people remember long after the conversation ends.
