Robert grew up in Charlotte, North Carolina and is the son of parents who divorced when he was 8 years old. In Robert's words, it was a bit of a dysfunctional household.
Like Bill, Robert was always an athlete. He was able to go all the way through school with the same classmates, eventually marrying his 3rd grade sweetheart Leigh in 1979. Leigh passed away in 2005 from breast cancer. They had 3 children together.
In 2007, Robert remarried, this time to Sandy and picked up two more children, along with his first grand daughter.
Robert worked primarily in the restaurant business for 22 years. He spent about 7 or 8 years in the software industry. In 2002, he launched his own speaking and business coaching business.
Robert would eventually launch Rusty Lion Academy. He and partner Bill Watkins help men develop extraordinary lives through significance in their businesses, in their relationships and more.
Western Carolina University is where he jokes he majored in camping and drinking beer. It was at this time that Robert began working in the restaurant business. He continued this track once graduating college.
Robert learned the ropes under the tutelage of Norman Brinker, owner of the Steak & Ale restaurant chain and other great leaders in the organization.
Robert missed a lot of his first two sons growing up as the business required a lot of his time in the 80s. In 1996 he transitioned into the software industry so he could be home more.
