Publisher's Summary:
This audiobook is about new and effective ways to address disease that arent commonly used by our physicians. Dr. Chris Gilbert demonstrates that our bodies speak to us all the time. Through symptoms such as fatigue, joint pain, abdominal pain, anxiety, depression, and other symptoms, our bodies let us know that we have a problem and that we need to solve it. Dr. Gilbert, assisted by Dr. Haseltine, shows that by using her giving the body a voice technique, sufferers can discover what the symptoms mean and how to fix the often hidden reasons for their health problems.
Each chapter reveals a different way of identifying underlying issues. These original, simple, and fun techniques include role-playing, inner group therapy, dream interpretation, art interpretation, nature walks, and even conversations with death. The Listening Cure covers a range of common afflictions, from obesity to back pain, and devotes a full chapter to resolving sexual problems in relationships.
By listening to what our bodies have to say, Dr. Gilbert shows how to achieve long-term, deep cures versus temporary, superficial fixes. Her secrets will become your secrets.

Makes me want to be a doctor
Wow. Dr. Chris Gilbert truly must be the best society doctor on this planet? Every page of this book drops a fascinating new insight in front of me, a simple health-conscious undergraduate. What Gilbert has done is heal by listening to the patient and examining the ENTIRE human condition- including addressing the suffering and repressed/oppressed emotions that are parts of what it means to be human. Her techniques to GUIDE the patient to creating his/her own remedy, rather than simply directing him to do this and that and take this pill... a very interesting method which seems to separate her from every other physician in my experience. One of the most fascinating books I have ever read, and I have read hundreds.
I am extremely fortunate to have stumbled upon Dr. Gilbert's PsychologyToday article which directed me to her book.
I do wonder though if the woman who had abdominal pain suffered not from eating lettuce, but rather from slathering her salads in industrial oils like soybean oil or vegetable oil as salad dressing (eg caesar's) to make the greens taste better. That would cause a lot of systemic inflammation and perhaps that abdominal pain. But I don't know, because I don't know if that would have caused the gas.

This is yet another very good example addressing the interconnection between mind and body
This is yet another very good example addressing the interconnection between mind and body, how powerful our minds are and how well our bodies are listening. As Dr. Gilbert has studied Gestalt therapy as well as homeopathic and western medicine, she is in an excellent position to situate her patient care at the intersection of the three fields. The book is well written, highly readable and inspiring. I recommend it without hesitation to everyone--non-medically trained readers, prospective patients and medical staff.
