"Let the one among you who is without sin be the first to throw a stone at her." God's mercy surpasses our human inclination to pass judgment on others. After all, are we not all in need of mercy and forgiveness?

"While I am in the world, I am the light of the world." Jesus opens our eyes so we can see his light.

"Let us celebrate with a feast, because this son of mine was dead and has come back to life again." The lure of sin leads to isolation and despair, but our loving God is always ready to embrace us and welcome us home.

"If you do not repent, you will perish as they did." Jesus shares a parable that gives us hope during this holy season as we learn to repent and seek God's forgiveness.

"Filled with the Holy Spirit, Jesus returned from the Jordan and was led by the Spirit into the desert for forty days, to be tempted by the devil." The Holy Spirit and the Word of God! That is the key to our Lenten journey with Jesus.

"When you fast, do not look gloomy like the hypocrites... Anoint your head and wash your face, so that you may not appear to be fasting, except to your Father who is hidden. And your Father who sees what is hidden will repay you." Ash Wednesday begins our Lenten journey toward Easter joy.

"A good person out of the store of goodness in his heart produces good, but an evil person out of a store of evil produces evil; for from the fullness of the heart the mouth speaks." Jesus offers practical wisdom for living in Christian community.

"Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you... Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful." Jesus challenges the world with his call to universal love.
