In this Episode

I’m talking about Workamping at Adventureland Theme Park.

To be honest this is one of the older Workamping employers, maybe even one of the oldest- outside of Workamping as say a Camp Host or in a campground setting. The Adventureland program has been around for quite some time and see thousands of Workampers over the years- so in today’s episode I want to just explain some of the program details a little more.

I recently just wrote an article, called Workamping where the fun happens- which to me describes a summer season at many theme parks throughout the United States, and to be honest there are more than a handful that recruit and hire Workampers season after season. While these fears are not to be entirely disregarded, sometimes I do feel they are a little over exaggerated and discourage RVers who are only interested in one job position- form applying.

I receive a lot of questions regarding Workampers who only need one position as opposed to the typical couple and wanted to dig a little deeper into the details of Workamper when its a party of one!

In this Episode

I first found out about Southern Cross from a fellow Workamper who was super excited to tell me all about her experience working for the company previously. She told me all about how she spent her days walking in city as well as residential areas, enjoying the sights and sounds of new areas while inspecting the sidewalks for possible leaks. She said she loved the experience, because it gave her an opportunity to keep active while making some pretty great travel cash for adventures later in the year.

I was intrigued by he description of the programs compensation structure- which seemed a little too good to be true, so I did my research to get some more of the details.

Thanks for tuning in today for Season 2 Episode 5 of the LiveCampWork Podcast. Today I’m talking about Workamping at Yelowstone National Park for Delaware North!

Delaware North Parks & Resorts at Yellowstone National Park operates 12 General Stores inside the world’s first national park where guests enjoy an  array of gifts and keepsakes to take home from their trips. Delaware North also serves meals at the Fountain Grills and offers groceries, equipment and supplies.

Imagine what a few months spent exploring natural wonders like Old Faithful Geyser, would be like! This could be the Workamping adventure you’ve always dreamed of, and its more attainable than you might think! As a Workamper in Yellowstone, you will have the ultimate ‘local’ experience of living inside the park and the spectacular ability to go beyond what millions of tourists are able to see in short visits throughout the summer.

As an employer, Delaware North does a great job of offering positions to a variety of people from all over the globe. From retirees to younger travelers, college students, international guests and everyone in-between, they hire a diverse group of people to help bring great experiences to visitors from all around the world!

The Yellowstone Workamping season usually starts early to mid-April and wraps up towards the end of November. It’s kind of similar to other Workamping programs, where you have the ability to provide a start date and then they will do their best to place you at one of their locations and I’m pretty sure they are looking for commitments with a 4-6 week min.

In today’s episode I’d like to talk about the annual Sugar Beat Harvest- since its pegged as the most profitable Workamping job- where you can make 2500 in just 14 days….

It’s said to be an unbeatable experience, and even though you’re working 12 hour shifts in sometimes freezing weather and covered in smelly dirt- RVers love it and head back year after year for the chance to score big for travel and adventures down the road.

The annual Workamper migration starts after the end of the Summer Camping season, when Labor Day celebrations are just dwindling down. Workampers who have hunkered down in the top tourist destinations of the year, now make their way South, heading for snowbird approved destinations for the Fall & Winter months ahead.

You may have seen it- the highways are packed with RVers heading south and to the far west, but some RVers have a different idea.

They’re pretty easy to spot, since they might seem to be headed in the wrong direction, and as they steadily drive farther north the answer to why they’ve chosen the path less often chosen- can only be explained by the fact that they have their hearts set on racking in big cash before calling it quits for the year!

They’ve signed an agreement with Express Employment Professionals to work the Sugar Beet Harvest. Committing usually for the full month of October, give or take a few days depending on mother nature’s plan for the weather that year, they stand to rack in about $2500 a piece for just 2 weeks of work. It’s hard to believe this is a Workamping job- but keep listening and lets put this into perspective as to why it pays so well…

The Sugar Beet Harvest is championed by a collective effort between Express Employment Professionals who hires for the nation’s two largest sugar producers, American Crystal Sugars and Sidney Sugars. Together they actively hire more than 1500 employees to work the harvest each year at 42 receiving stations and 6 factories. Since the local unemployment rate is pretty much non-existent, meaning everyone who wants to work is already working, Workampers are seen by some as the reliable infantry of seasonal help for the booming 5-billion-dollar beet industry. “Workampers are the heartbeat of our operation!” says Express Employment Professions. In fact, if you’re a numbers person, you might be surprised, or at least interested to know that a whopping 42% of these 1500+ positions are filled by Workampers each year!

Obviously, Americans love their sugar! And while working the Sugar Beet is a unique Workamping experience, the hiring team likes to be upfront and honest about the details of this opportunity to ensure that Workampers are making the best decision for their personal situations when deciding ...

Alright, let’s get started with Episode 1 of Season 2:

The Season 2 Overview, What to Expect + What’s Up With LCW

First and foremost I want to take a moment to thank everyone who has been listening in and downloading the episodes! Your guys rock and I love the support that comes from the RV community. At this moment we’re at the beginning of the 2nd season where I’m just about to take a look into several Workamping programs and ways to work on the road for RVers, but before I tell you all about what’s instore for the next 12 episodes I want to share some fun insights with you really quickly.

Okay, so…. I received a random email saying that the LiveCampWork Podcast was ranking high in the Places & Travel category on iTunes- and literally thought it was SPAM.

I clicked on the link to see the stats, although I was almost sure this would end up crashing my computer- but I did it anyway because I was super curious… and what do ya know… the podcast was in the top 100!!! Pretty cool and it was just the motivation I needed! So I want to say thanks to everyone who hit the subscribe button, downloaded the episodes and those who are able to leave a review- please do so….

Season Overview & What to Expect

Okay, enough of that- Let’s move forward to the real content for today, the really reason you’re here listening in… Let’s talk about what’s  coming up on the LiveCampWork Podcast for season 2!

This season on the LiveCampWork Podcast I’m going to cover the details of several Workamping programs that are great for both newbies as well as experienced RVers. Many of these programs have been around for years and are tried and true, with an established flow of those who come back season after season. Others are new kids on the block and have either just started hiring RVers or their just not as well known, but made a good impression on me for one reason or another, and I thought you should know about them first!

In each episode I’ll walk you through the details of what it really means to work for these companies, how much they pay and how you can go about getting the job if you’re interested. Most episodes will follow this format, while a few will spice things up by having a live interview from an RVer with a great story to tell.

There are just so many amazing stories left untold- I don’t want to miss the opportunity to provide a platform for people to share their side of the story, ya know. Like we all RV for different reasons, we all do it in different ways, in different units and I just love to hear these stories while I’m out on the road. Campfire chit chat are never dull when folks start talking about their lives on the road, so we’ll share these stories as they relate to Living, Camping, & Working along the way.
