Why are some people more successful than others? There are numerous reasons, but here's one truth that is often a common denominator: Successful people are willing to do the things necessary to achieve success that others are not willing to do. In Episode 020 of The Live It Forward Show, Kent Julian shares 3 easy steps for how to motivate yourself. These are simple things you can do today to guarantee you find and keep your mojo!

  • 018. Want to Do What You Love and Make Money At It? Ask Yourself 4 Questions

You've probably heard the saying: "Do what you love and the money will follow." Can you really do what you love and make money at it? It depends on whom you ask. Some people say, "Absolutely!" Others say, "No way, that's unrealistic."

But here's the real question: Why settle for either/or—passion or profit—when you can go for both/and?

When you go after both/and, you are empowered to say, "Yes, I can make money doing what I love and yes, I can make a profit by meeting a real need in the marketplace."

In Episode 018 of The Live It Forward Show, Kent Julian addresses 4 questions you should ask yourself if you want to do work you love and make money at it. This episode is all about embracing a both/and mindset so that you can create work that fits your passion!

  • 017. Why I Like One of My Children More Than The Others

A few days ago Kent posted this on Facebook:

The moment you arrive home after a speaking engagement and find one of your daughters reading the book you wrote. At that moment, she is your favorite child.:-)

Recently, Kent took his three children out to dinner and asked them what topics he should cover on some of his upcoming podcast episodes. The #1 suggestion from all three children was READING. Then together, they came up with the title of this episode in response to Kent's recent Facebook posting.

Episode 017 of The Live It Forward Show is definitely a fun and lighthearted episode. But to be clear, it's not an episode filled with parenting tips about raising children, although you'll gain a glimpse of the great relationships Kent and Kathy have with all three of their children. Instead, this episode is about the power of great books. Specifically, Kent addresses:

    1. The reason reading great books is so important to your success
    2. How to start your own reading plan
    3. 12 great books Kent reads over and over again

While this is a fun, lighthearted, story-based show, there are several poignant moments where Kent talks about things like the power of giving a meaningful gift, the importance of sharing an encouraging word, and more.

  • 016. 2 Words that Will Mess Up Your Life (and what you can do about them)

There are two words that are guaranteed to mess up your life: "Someday" and "but."

    Someday I'll be a runner.

    Someday I'll lose weight.

    Someday I'll start my business.

Someday I'll purse my dream career.

    Someday I'll live my dream.

    But I'm too old.

    But I'm too young.

But I don't have any money.

But I make too much money to risk.

    But I'm not smart enough.

    But I could fail.

"Someday" and "but" will mess up your life! "Someday" shrinks your life. "But" stinks up your life.

Yet when you stop using the "someday" excuse, you gain your VISION back and start seeing new OPPORTUNITIES again. When you stop using the "but" excuse, you take your POWER back and start taking RISKS again.

In Episode 016 of The Live It Forward Show, Kent Julian talks in depth about how the words "someday" and "but" disempower you.  Then he gives three specific actions you can take today to gain your vision and power back.

  • 014. 3 Ways to Say No Without Burning Bridges or Feeling Guilty

Saying NO graciously is a hard skill to develop, especially if you enjoy helping people. Who wants to feel guilty or be considered rude? Yet when you say YES to everything, the reality is you will eventually say NO to something more important. Have you ever thought about it that way?

Since forward is the direction of success, if you want to be successful in life and business, you have to learn The Power of No. You have to learn how to say NO to decisions that will cause you to stand still or move backwards and YES to decisions that will help you live it forward. This does not mean you have to say NO to everything that is not 100 percent mission critical, but you will have to learn how to say NO when saying YES is strategically unwise.

In Episode 014 of The Live It Forward Show, Kent Julian talks about The Power of No and shares three ways to say NO nicely without burning bridges or feeling guilty.

  • 013. How to Say NO to the Good So You Can Say YES to the Best

Did you realize that knowing how to say NO is likely more important to your success than knowing how to say YES? The more success you experience, the more requests you will receive. This means if you get good at something and you have a heart to serve others, your plate will become full very quickly. When that happens, if you say YES to everything that comes your way, you will eventually crowd out the things that are most important.

See why knowing how to say NO and back it up is so important to your success? Remember, the enemy of the best is not the bad, but the good.

In Episode 013 of The Live It Forward Show, Kent Julian shares six ideas that will help you develop the skill of how to say NO to all those things that come your way that might be good, but are not best.
