Do you remember your first Star Wars read? Whether it be a comic, novel, magazine article, or audiobook, there was a beginning to the expanded universe for everyone outside of the cinematic films. Our hosts will reach back “a long time ago” to discover their first ever Star Wars reads and who introduced us to the stories we didn’t know existed. Is it still a good idea to pick up book #9 in the New Jedi Order series as your introduction into the expanded universe? Maybe; maybe not. Everyone is different....but we wouldn’t necessarily recommend it. Día de los Muertos or The Day of the Dead is a holiday celebrated to honor the deceased and remember loved ones who have passed on. There have been many, some would say too many, Star Wars characters that have passed on into the Force but have left a lasting impression on the story as well as the fandom. We will discuss the legacies these important characters have left behind and how their journeys have either carved a path for the future of Star Wars or left mountains for others to scale. From the first appearance of Princess Leia in episode IV to the rise of Rey Skywalker in episode IV, women in Star Wars have played a crucial role in the formation of the stories we love. Although underrepresented in the early years of the original trilogy, lead female actors, authors, and creators have taken center stage in the progression of Star Wars films, TV shows, novels, and stories. The TLF crew is proud to welcome Emma Parke from The Cosmic Force to help us discuss the inclusivity of women in Star Wars, our favorite female writers and authors, and how we all now view the NEW status quo within the fandom.
