  • Ep. 44 - The Difference Between Taking Ownership Of Your Fitness vs. Cherrypicking

Crossfit is known for being 'prepared for the unknown' as far as training goes. How does 'cherry picking' workouts then come into play? At Crossfit Palm Beach we allow our athletes (both on the Beachfit and Crossfit side) to view our week of workouts for each day. We want our athletes to use this as a tool to take ownership of their fitness and help prepare them for the workout (i.e. injury specific warm ups, proper attire for rope climbs etc.) There are some times when cherry picking, or choosing a particular workout to attend, might be appropriate and benefit your fitness, but there are also times when this "cherry picking" habit can be detrimental to your overall improvement. In this episode we dive into both of these scenarios, and the pros of cons of "cherry picking". We also dive into the process of our programming for both Beachfit and Crossfit, and how to really get the most out of your training.

  • Ep. 43 - The Habits Challenge: How To Make Habits Stick

In this episode we welcome our newest coach Katy Richardson, AND we are talking about HABITS. We've just wrapped up a Habits Challenge with our members. We want to build our habits so they are building blocks to achieving our long term goals. Coming into the new year, we want these habits to STICK and have a more permanent roll than a typical 30 day challenge where old habits and behaviors take over. We talk about the habits being "small" but not to mean insignificant. Habits can be broken down to the most do-able action. For example, a habit for a goal of reading a book could be, I read 1 sentence every day. One sentence seems do-able on any day, and will typically lead to more than one sentence being read. We also go into how to keep the momentum of habits rolling throughout the year.

  • Ep. 42 - Why BeachFit May Be Better Than CrossFit

In this episode we are joined by almost all of our Beachfit coaches for a Beachfit focused podcast. We dive into why our Beachfit classes could even be better than Crossfit.

Coach Zach, Coach Steve and Coach Muggs shed some light on why Beachfit is different than our Crossfit classes (as to the type of workout your going to get) and why Beachfit is not "easier".

We go over how Beachfit is part of the base of our fitness pyramid; offering classes that focus on correcting imbalances, moving correctly and building up an aerobic base.

We also talk about why it is beneficial to do both Beachfit and Crossfit to help round out your fitness.

  • Ep. 41 - Predicting & Preparing For The 2018 CrossFit Games Open

This is the annual 5 week long competition [1 workout per week] that Crossfit puts on for ALL Crossfit affiliates and athletes around the world. For the best athletes the Open serves as a qualifier for regionals and the Crossfit games.

We talk about the changes in the Open as far as location and teams participation, we also go over some of the changes we saw in the open LAST year (2017) and if we think they will show up in the 2018 Open.

Tune in for some predictions and tips on how to make this "Open Season" your best season yet.

  • Ep. 40 - The Importance Of Knowing Why You Workout

Goals and Goal setting, are two terms we often hear tossed around in conversation especially when it comes to working out. Goals are part of a bigger picture, which can be your WHY. Your intention [that is meaningful to YOU] for working out. We talk about each of our personal WHY's in this podcast, as they vary between the coaches. We also talk about having some fluidity within our goal setting, and with our WHY. As life changes and evolves goals and intentions should take shape along with it, especially for health and fitness. Why also go over being accountable to our WHYs, having our actions match up with what our WHY is and what to do if they aren't in alignment.

  • Ep. 39 - The History And Future Of CrossFit Palm Beach

We flip the script in this Episode as [our most recent hire] Coach Craig takes on the questions and we dive into Andrew and Tony's story and how Crossfit Palm Beach came to be.  We learn about how Coach Andrew and Tony first started Crossfit, and how their love for fitness grew into becomming coaches and opening a business for their hometown community.  The development of the business is a story in itself, but since 2012 Crossfit Palm Beach and our Beachfit program has really taken off. We continue to strive to make things better, for our members, for our coaches, and for our community.

  • Ep. 38 - Why Former Athletes Love CrossFit Palm Beach

Our coaches join us for a conversation around why so many former athletes can be found working out at Crossfit Palm Beach. We dive into the sport of Crossfit itself, how Crossfit can give purpose and direction back to training for the former athlete, and the atmosphere and "team feeling" that Crossfit provides.

We also go into some of the pitfalls and obstacles we work with and deal with ourselves as former athletes. Highly competitive people (such as former athletes) are prone to overtrain, and take on too much too soon. We talk about how at Crossfit Palm Beach we like to focus on the long game, so we can be healthier and "fitter" longer.

  • Mini-Ep. 5 - Athlete of the Month - Patrick Warren

Our Male Athlete of the Month for October 2017 is Patrick Warren.  Patrick is one of the most committed and driven athletes that we have at CFPB, AND is also one of the most coachable and receptive athletes as well.

After years of working out at Gold's Gym and finally getting bored of his routine, Patrick saw the CrossFit Games on TV, and was immediately impressed with the caliber of athletes CrossFit was producing.  He found CrossFit Palm Beach shortly after in August 2016, and is now a staple in our 6 and 7 AM classes.

At first, Patrick struggled a lot with his flexibility, and could barely do an overhead squat.  Now, he is one of the strongest athletes in the gym, and can regularly be seen doing rope climbs, handstand push ups, and muscle ups in workouts.  He also enjoys cooking and loves watching the Food Network.  His favorite Food Network show is Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives.

  • Mini-Ep. 4 - Athlete of the Month - Jennifer Eppert

Our Female Athlete of the Month for October 2017 is Jennifer Eppert.  Jennifer started CrossFit 4 ½ years ago when her work had a "Chub Club" competition, where you had 12 weeks to try to lose 10% of your body fat.  CrossFit helped her win the competition (and $800!) and she has been in love with it ever since.

Recently, she was starting to plateau with her results, despite doing extra workouts and participating in both our CrossFit and BeachFit classes.  She started focusing more on her nutrition, and tracking her macros, and in only 4 months she has lost an additional 10 lbs and 4 inches, and now is starting to see definition in her abs.

Her proudest moment since starting CrossFit is recently getting her 17 yr old daughter Becca to join her.  They can usually be found working out together in the 7 PM class.
