Are you so full of the holy spirit that you're just leaking? That is what God desires. He doesn't just fill you so you can hoard and savor His presence for your own enjoyment and security. As Pastor Danny will challenge us in today's message, the 120 who experienced the anointing of the holy spirit in that upper room went out and they changed their world. If they had justed huddled together and enjoyed the flame that rested on their heads, they would've missed the entire point.
Can you imagine having that kind of impact for God's kingdom? As Pastor Danny will highlight in today's message, 3,000 people were baptized into the holy spirit because of the work that God did in the heart of Peter. While we see this kind of thing happen occasionally in the modern day church, generally we are far more dependent on our own planning and programming to reach the lost. It's not that God doesn't use those things, but He works best when we step aside and let His spirit work through us.
If you were to look at someone's bank statements, it likely would give you a good idea of what they treasure. Maybe they value the money itself and feel a strong sense of security in saving up. Maybe they spend every dime on momentary pleasures and possessions, building up earthly treasures and experiences. Or maybe they hold it loosely, giving it to the church and to others. As Pastor Danny will point out in the example of the Pharisees, they thought that they were so close to God when really they had made self their God.
We love to think about God's promises... at least the good ones. But understandably we don't like to dwell on the promises of judgement and destruction for those that reject Him and choose this world. Even for believers, we might cling to the promise of eternal life while neglecting to live in a way that glorifies the one who gives it. As Pastor Danny will warn us in today's message, if you choose temporary pleasures over eternal values, you can expect to experience the consequences in this life.
You have to take Satan seriously. He is no match for our Savior, but when we grow complacent cruising through life on our own we open ourselves up to the prince of lies. He will come in and convince us that our comfort is more important than our mission. As Pastor Danny will point out in today's message, when you're in Christ you can rest assured that your eternity is secure. But that doesn't mean that the enemy is going to leave you alone. He loves to rob us of the fullness of joy that God has for us.
No, you aren't going to be perfect in this life. Even those who manage to keep up the appearance of righteousness are often full of the sins of the heart and mind. But as Pastor Danny will warn in today's message, don't let your tendency toward sin be an excuse for sin. Jesus has enough grace for the worst of sinners, but if you have really experienced that grace the holy spirit will fill you with a deep desire to flee from sin and to live a life that glorifies God in every possible way.
This life is full of desserts. You are going to wander through periods of time where you feel dry and like you are ready to collapse and give up. Being in a spiritual dessert isn't wrong. Jesus spent his fair share of time in the wilderness. Where we go wrong is digging down into ourselves to find the sustenance we need. In today's message, Pastor Danny will encourage us to drink from the well that never runs dry. Place your trust fully in Jesus and He will provide for you through those dry times.
If anyone had an excuse, it was Caleb. At his age he should've been sitting down watching the young ones work. But as Pastor Danny continues our study in the book of Joshua in today's message, we will get a different picture. This man was persistent and faithful, he wasn't okay just sitting by while God had work for him to do. Instead of handing out excuses, he stood up and trusted God would provide the strength necessary to accomplish what everyone else said was impossible.
Have you ever met someone who prides themselves on being a "no" person? They justify it by saying, "Someone has to be realistic. Someone has to keep the dreamers on the ground". Well, maybe there are some situations where that is true, but in God's kingdom the impossible is possible as long as it lines up with God's will. As Pastor Danny will ask in today's message, would you rather be one of the ten that said Canaan was out of reach? Or one of the two who trusted that God could make a way?
Hide the Word of The Lord in your heart. In today's message from Pastor Danny, he explains to you the importance of storing up the Word of God in your mind and heart. The Bible is a weapon. It is sharper than any two edged sword. When you study and memorize scripture you have a mighty weapon for defeating the attacks of the enemy. Pastor Danny encourages you that with this weapon you will be able to encourage and empower yourself and you'll be able to conquer your fears and giants. The Word of God is priceless.
