The book of Acts is like the "part 2" of Luke's writing, capturing the life and ministry of Jesus as it's lived out through his early church. Our study begins in chapter 1, as the disciples are confused about when Jesus will actually make everything right, but he urges them not to wait on his return - that the gift of the Holy Spirit is powerful. It causes us to ask: Do we recognize the Holy Spirit as a gift that's valuable, living and active?

The beginning of Jesus’s church was full of power and movement. There’s a temptation to glorify this group of people as the “gold standard”; stories we passively observe and marvel at, but don’t believe we could actively participate in something similar. The witness of the Acts of the Apostles is clear though: what began in Jesus is continuing in the life of his church through the power of the Holy Spirit.
Together we're exploring what Jesus began to do and teach, and the instruction to continue this work through us and in the life of our church. It is our hope that people see the different parts of the narrative as invitations to embrace the power and the movement of the early church in their own lives.
