What's Goin' Down In Downtown J-Town is recorded live and uncut at Third City Sound in Downtown Joliet on the third floor above Chicago Street Pub. We are so grateful to know all of the folks doing such fantastic things in our city. We feel like it should be our duty to keep you informed of this renaissance.
Its important for communities to come together to make this world a great place to live. Even though Blue Island Beer Company isn't a Joliet establishment, they've been a large part of our community. They've poured their beers at a number of Joliet festivals including Hopstring Fest. You can find them at Joe's Beverage Depot on Jefferson, and on tap at Chicago Street Pub. They also host a ton of Joliet music at their brewery. We're big fans of what they do, and they're big fans of Joliet. We have a mutual commitment to community so we thought we'd have em on the show. I think a J-Town field trip is in order!

February 28, 2019 Interview 55: Dan Dougherty - Songwriter and Artist
We want you to be able to see the things we see in all of the people we've met while playing music, and now through doing these interviews. Our hub at the moment is Downtown Joliet. It's got this buzz around it. The city is starting to wake up. We will be doing our best to keep you up to date on What's Goin' Down In Downtown J-Town.
In Episode 55, we talk to Dan Dougherty. Dan's a comic strip artist. A damn good one, too. He's responsible for the cereation of Beardo, Touching Evil, and Floppy Cop. There's more, but I'll just post his website link below.....
He's also a guitarist and singer. He does just about all of the writing in his bands Workhorse Kings and On the Off Chance. He talks a little about his newest project in the recording studio now. Dan played a couple of songs during the interview for us.
Also, Bill was the guest host. He runs the studio. He's responsible for recording many of Joliet's latest releases. And, he isn't showing any signs of slowing down either. He's a stellar bassist, also. VV for life, yo.

February 24, 2019 Interview 54: Ava Suppelsa- Nashville Songwriter
It's What's Goin' Down In Downtown J-Town's second anniversary. On February 23, 2017 our first episode was released on Facebook featuring Riverhorse. Since then we've also become a community events page on Twitter and Instagram. We also have begun a radio show called The What's Goin' Down In Downtown J-Town's Local Music Bonanza on WCSF 88.7 from The University of Saint Francis. We play music from unsigned musical artists from Joliet as well as band from all over the country that have played in Joliet. We record our show live at Third City Sound on the third floor above Chicago Street Pub. The Pub was what remained a community hub in a dismal Joliet for years. It's finally starting to pay off as this great city is waking up once again. Our goal is to keep you as informed about it as possible in real time.
Ava Suppelsa has played in and around Joliet for a bit. You've seen her at The Pub. She's been at the Tim Placher Shindig at the Shanty. This coming Monday February 25th, 2019 she'll be opening the year's first Local Music Monday at the Rialto Square Theater. Ava has become a Nashville songwriter with great success penning songs for other performers. We were more than happy that she agreed, and had time, to give us an interview. Within our standard two songs per artist, she was cool enough to give us an impromptu performance of a song she wrote for herself. She's also gonna be playing at John Condron's Hot Seat Concert Series at Tribe's Ale House Sunday February 24th, 2019. We enjoyed our time with Ava...you will, too.

We record our podcast on the third floor above Chicago Street Pub at Third City Sound in Downtown Joliet. We wanna keep you informed of all the positive things that are happening in our city. There is constantly new music coming out. New businesses are opening. Fest keep getting planned. We would like to show you a great time!
We had such a great time hangin out with Casimer Kolasa for this episode. His band Sunwise is really cool. They are a Joliet based heavy band. It's not really metal, but they bring it just the same. He's a good dude that always comes out to shows and supports everyone's events. He rebooted the old favorite Mustache fest in November of 2018. It was primarily heavier music held at two different venues in Downtown Joliet. Elder Brewing Company kicked it off....Chicago Street Pub closed it out. Casimer is gonna be back at Elder Brewing on January 18, 2019 for the release of the new Sunwise album, Mistakes Were Made. He also owns Wilmington Collision. We get into that a little bit, too.

January 05, 2019 Episode 52 prt1: The Steel City Stories2
We're excited to release the first of four parts to The Steel City Stories II. Alex Hoffer hosts this event that was held at Elder Brewing Company's first anniversary party in November of 2018. It was a great night of some of Joliet's favorite songwriters taking turns playing they're own tunes. They did four rounds just as they did in the first Steel City Stories. There was a mix of musicians that had done the first one along with new comers to the event. They were Brian Motyll, John Condron, Allison Flood, Chris Flood, Jrossgreen, Pete Jive, Alex Hoffer, and Eric Totherow in that order. Brent James of the Righteous Hillbillies made an appearance, too towards the end of the night. He'd been hangin out in the crowd when somebody had asked him to jump on up. We'll fill ya in on it when we release that round. We love listening to these folks play. It's cool to hear them play without bands, or to hear songs evolve over time. We hope you'll feel the same.

December 21, 2018 J-Town Extra-New Orleans North with The Big Lagniappe
I brought my hand held recorder out to The New Orleans North festival in Downtown Joliet in June, 2018. I went around to get some interviews with as many people as I could. The Big Lagniappe played to thousands of people that night as the closing act. I got nearly every member to do a little chatting with me. I thought it would be a good time to put this out in celebration of The Big Lagniappe's album release tonight at Chicago Street Pub. I do apologize for the low quality. It's always better when David Francis handles all things recording...however, he plays trumpet for The Big Lagniappe...It's cool to hear a little about what was brewing at The Old Joliet Prison Project before any of it started happening as well. December 11, 2018 Interview 51: Next To Eternity-Joliet Metal
This community is growing in size and pride. It diversity isn't an issue. The days of listening to one genre exclusively seems to be a thing of the past. How can you deny such dedication and talent. Music doesn't need to be a club for people who like to buy the same clothes and use the same slang. I think it's great to develop a culture, a certain style. But, yo....don't let that stop ya from enjoying someone else's. Variety is good. Drink it up before it fades away. What's Goin' Down In Downtown J-Town will try to inform you and document as much of it as we can. Change is subtle. It can start with a little mutual respect. We can show a bit of compassion for those we may not agree with. That would be a giant step in a peaceful, plentiful direction.
In Episode 51, Next To Eternity hits ya with something heavy. Their new album, To the End, was recorded localy at The Nook in New Lenox. It sounds awesome....I do like heavy and aggressive music. It's where I started in music. It was great to hear how these guys got their start. The main collaborators Sam and Brad gave us a couple tracks to sample while we had a chat. Check em out!

December 07, 2018 Interview 50: Colleen Wild- Singer Songwriter
Our Joliet community is rapidly growing. So many new things are set to hit in 2019. It's going to be a great year. I'm looking forward to the next wave of new albums that are coming out. Big Lagniappe, Riverhorse, Colonel Chloroform, and the list goes on. We will be doing our best to keep you informed of everything as it comes out. The festivals are going to be like nothing Joliet has seen in years. The musicians a so pumped up right now. It's electric in Downtown Joliet!
Colleen Wild as been singing most of her life. We're glad she's made a home in our music scene. She appeared on The Steele City Stories episodes, and was at Third City Sound finishing up a recording project with Alex Hoffer. That one's gonna be nuts....

November 09, 2018 Interview 49: David Drilling- Guitarist and vocalist of Arbor Creek
The sense of community is steadily growing in Downtown Joliet. Everyone is coming together to give the city something it hasn't seen in decades. There have been new businesses opening whose owners intend on bringing life to a place with so much potential. A change is coming. Don't buy into the dread. Humans don't have to be the disease of the Earth. It's time to give it all we've got in whatever it is that we do. That passion is what will turn the general air of life back to a positive tone. It can be done as easily as it was to make us feel helpless and defeated. We can inspire each other to make this place a source of pride. We can all live a healthy and bountiful life so long as we are willing to allow everyone else to have the same. This show is our contribution to that movement. We hope to give you evidence, the proof you need to come here with us in this effort to make a better world.
We had a great time hangin out with David Drilling of Arbor Creek. They have been getting a bit of attention lately, and rightfully so. They're good dudes playing and writing to put the audience at ease for a couple hours. David learned a cover tune to keep to our shtick of having a live performance on the show. It turned out pretty cool. We actually did this episode remote at my house as Bill Aldridge was doing the final mix for the new Big Lagniappe album. We cannot wait for that. So many great albums came out of Third City Sound this year. Ya really should take a look. Some albums may not get released until next year, however.

October 20, 2018 Interview 48: Extraction Point- Joliet Metal
What's Goin' Down In Downtown J-Town is glad to be back for Episode 48 with Extraction Point. These guys had asked to come on the show to talk a little bit about The Prison City Halloween Massacre Eleven. I'm hoping some of you are reading this prior to the October 27th, 2018 shoe at The Forge In Downtown Joliet. Green Jelly(Jello) is on the bill as well. Bill Manspeaker is the main guy and came out with a hilarious music video in the 1990's. There's something WGDIDJT is calling Green Jelly Slimes J-Town. A few of the businesses decided to do some themed activities for the day. Audiophil's Records is having a meet and great. Kalypso is going to have a cocktail, The Green Jelly Shot. Juliet's is goin to have The Three Little Pigs burger. House-Made Italian sausage and ground beef patties from a local farm with a couple ingredients you'll havr to look into on your own. Our show is recorded live in one take with little to no editing. Well, most of the time anyways....this one is. We record at Third City Sound on the third floor above Chicago Street Pub, the home of local original music. If it wasn't for them the scene may not exist at all. They managed to stay open during the really dark times of the downtown area. Now there's so much happening. It's great to see some many people hanging out. There's a ton of talented folks out there pouring their hearts into giving you something great. Give them a try. I know you'll see the same thing that I do. It's becoming a great commuity to be a part of.
