Meet JeriLee Randall, aspiring actress, ambitious writer, and sexual powerhouse. It is this ambition that takes her away from her tiny hometown of Port Clare and sets her on a collision course with her future.
Surviving on determination and seduction, she makes her way to Broadway and then on to Hollywood. The bright lights mask a deeper darkness, and JeriLee is quickly drawn into a world of greed, drugs, casting couches, and smooth-talking power players. She struggles to hold on to her honesty and the code of ethics she developed in her youth. More than anything else, she struggles to hold on to her dreams of success and stardom. It will take all her strength and cunning to escape Hollywood's death grip and beat the power elite at their own game.
Harold Robbins, the author who rewrote the rules for erotic fiction, turns Hollywood on its ear in The Lonely Lady.

So if I'm a 'ho, what does that make you?
Any book which has the ultimate message to readers that '' We're all whores. '' is more than OK in my world. If you've ever asked yourself '' How can one go from being a Tony award winning actress to a drug addled lesbian stripper? '' ( I know I have many times ) THE LONELY LADY will deliver the answer. Jeri's journey, from her Sexual Awakening, through her downward spiral and nervous breakdown, to her eventual triumph as a Feminist Icon, would make Gloria Steinem proud ( and leave you with your mouth agog ). While not as good as Robbins' A STONE FOR DANNY FISHER ( which I really do think is the greatest 20th century American novel ), this is still one of his more interesting 'trash' novels. If you'd like to see how filthy Harold Robbins could really get, read GOODBYE JANETTE. The semen practically drips off the pages of that book.
I like Harold Robbins books generally
I like Harold Robbins books generally. They usually have a reasonable story line and flow quite well. It is not difficult to get into the story lines and keep up with them. However this book was very bland and I kept waiting for something dynamic to happen and it never did. I actually found myself looking forward to the end of the book which was very disappointing.
Five Stars
Harold Robbins being Robbins... not for the faint of heart!
odd
Not the oddest book I ever read, but probably the stupidest. This book reminded me of Sidney Sheldon only the story didn't come together at any point. The main character is unlikable and there is no clear reason for why she is how she is. She goes back and forth between wise, slightly successful strong woman to most of the time loser waste of space and time. I finished it hoping at some point she would wake up and redeem herself but she really never does.
memories
I read this book for the first time when I was 16...at the time I loved it..looking back though, I think it's probably because it was so risqué for the time...(70's) I was a good read the second time, but I definitely so a lot of flaws.. I liked it though...just didn't love it as much as I had as a girl.
