Title: Tony the Liar

Author: George Billions

Narrator: George Billions

Format: Unabridged

Length: 1 hr and 58 mins

Language: English

Release date: 12-28-17

Publisher: George Billions

Ratings: 5 of 5 out of 1 votes

Genres: Fiction, Contemporary

Publisher's Summary:

Tony has always been a bad dude. He was an explosives expert at the age of 10, and by high school had become a major drug dealer with cartel connections. These days, he's making bank as a cage fighter with lucrative sponsorships and fists registered as deadly weapons. In his downtime, he's a motocross champion who also makes swords. His life would be far too intense for the average man, but Tony's got a secret trick up his sleeve: He soaks batteries in a mix of hard liquor and energy drinks for the ultimate pick-me-up.

Blake has known Tony since they were kids and knows better than to believe anything the guy says. The massive wad of bills Tony keeps flashing is real enough, though. Down on his luck, the allure of quick cash makes Tony seem a lot more believable. Blake agrees to do one simple job, continuing to chase the prize even as it becomes clear that Tony is still the liar he's always been.

Five Stars

Based on a true story.

Fantastic debut!

George Billions is a very talented writer. He has a knack of writing so effortlessly that you could overlook just how well-accomplished his prose is. From the very first paragraph, I found myself suckered in, and by the time I was two or three pages in, I felt completely immersed by the story.

This is a simple tale executed brilliantly, about Blakeâs take on a school friend of his who lies about everything. And when the two of them meet up later in life as adults, itâs clear that Tony the Liar hasnât changed one bit; and when Tony entices Blake, the narrator of this tale, into some dangerous skulduggery, things start to get out of hand.

Iâm sure weâve all known people - especially kids â that lie for no apparent reason, but Tony really takes the biscuit. Itâs hard to know if anything he says is true, and heâs a very well-rounded character, portrayed superbly by Blakeâs commentary on the guy; where the story weaves between their schooldays of the past and the present day. It somewhat feels like the relationship of Nick and Gatsby, in that we never learn a huge amount about the narrator telling the story, but at the same time we learn much about him through his reflections on the âheroâ of the story.

This is a funny, fast-paced, quick read, but it is that where my only criticism of Tony the Liar lies. This book needs to be longer. What we have in this novella is fantastic, but it also feels like the germ of an idea for a full-blown novel where situations could have been pushed beyond their boundaries and things could have taken a much more crazy turn for the worse. So Iâm only criticising what we donât have, as opposed to what we have, and Iâll gladly take whatâs on offer. I highly enjoyed Billionsâ second novella, which I read before this debut, and Iâm looking forward to reading his latest; Buying Illegal Bugs with Bitcoin. Keep âem coming George.

A slice of life

At some point in their lives, everyone knows a Tony the Liar. Tony is the annoying loudmouth whose bragging and outrageous stories make him a laughingstock. He's the guy you want to steer clear of. In this quick-reading novella, Tony is a child who cannot stop telling stories. While some of his classmates believe him at times, Blake, the narrator, realizes that at some point, his friend has changed and is making up unbelievable scenarios.

Title: Big Hairy Deal

Subtitle: A Creep Squad Novel

Author: Steve Vernon

Length: 5 hrs and 18 mins

Publisher: Stark Raven Press

Publisher's Summary:

So what happens when Bigfoot, the Trickster Coyote, the ghost of Sam Steele and the long-lost spirit of The Prophet, brother to the mighty Tecumseh and reincarnated in the form of a giant pink flying Winnebago go toe-to-toe with dark supernatural forces in a cross-Canada battle ranging from Cape Breton to Labrador to Thunder Bay? I'm not saying that it is going to be pretty...

Members Reviews:

I'm Not Saying It Was Pretty But it sure was funny

Big Hairy Deal was a fascinating adventure that almost reads like a five year old stream of consciousness that is a pure delight to read and/or listen to. The story is filled with tales of Myth and legend and lots of potty humor. Very little gore, most of what was there was gross versus disgusting. Pure, unadulterated fun. The flow of the story is very natural, and full of wonder, fast paced action and imaginative characters. There is a lot of realistic absurdity that should not work in any story but manages to fit right in here. A Flying Pink Winnebago that is the reincarnation of the long lost spirit of the Prophet.

The Narration was done very well and brought the characters to life.

I would recommend this to anyone who is a fan of absurdist, bizarro fun. Also if you like The Tome Of Bill series.

Looking forward to listening to more of Steve Vernon's stuff soon.

I requested a free review copy of this audio book and I am leaving a voluntary and honest review.

"...The description of the late 1960s and 1970s is so vivid and detailed - the music, the colors, the ways people communicated - a real portrait of the time.... The reading by Linda Fitak is exceptionally well-done and charming: it seduces and invites the listener to continue. The novel is certainly a very complex tapestry, but the protagonist and her co-protagonists are so deftly delineated that each one finds a place in the listener's memory." - Beatrice degli Abruzzi, Florence, Italy

Ember Burning

Where does Ember Burning rank among all the audiobooks youve listened to so far?

Ember Burning is a good audiobook.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Tre was my favorite character. He has a great back story, and is well-written.

What does Moira Todd bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?

She sings, which gives a depth to the main character that wouldn't be there, otherwise.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I very much enjoyed the ending; it made a lot of sense to me, considering what Ember had been through.

Thrilling to the end

Who was your favorite character and why?

Trey is my favorite character. I think he is the most selfless character in the story. Ember gets on my nerves a little sometimes. She's so book smart, but she can also be so stupid sometimes.

What about Moira Todds performance did you like?

I thought her dry comedy fit in Embers voice very well

Any additional comments?

It really is a page turner. The mystery has you guessing until the end. There is romance, but it's not a romance book. Not only that, but it digs into some tough subject matter that many teens struggle with. I want to hear book two to find out what happens!

Must read

Beautiful. Moving. Inspiring.

I won the book in a giveaway but since I am always puttering I bought the Audible version to listen to it. The words flowed together seamlessly. Normally when I finish a book I can't wait to start the next one, but an exceptional book leaves me wanting to savor the book. This is an exceptional book plus some.

I was quickly invested in Clay and the girls. His story and struggles are very believable. Maddy's reaction to seeing her father after two years was spot on. The correlation between Jess' fight and Clay's addiction was subtley interwoven. The unfailing and unconditional love between Jess, Clay and the girls was inspiring even when hard choices were made.

You will need a box of tissues when reading. Will Damron's narration was faultless. This is a must read or listen to book.
