Ben Groundwater, writer for Traveller.com.au told Jo McManus on 6PR Afternoons that when it comes to travel, 2023 is not so much about what you want to do, but what you want to avoid. 

"For example, one of those is checking luggage. I went overseas the last couple of months and it's the first time I only took carry on and it was a game changer," Mr Groundwater said.

A University of NSW study has found that the smallest changes to diet can change someone's risk of cardiovascular disease. 

Jemma O’Hanlon, Senior dietitian at the Heart Foundation told 6PR Afternoons host Jo McManus, that the findings aligned with the robust science around diet and heart disease. 

"It really demonstrated that by increasing our fruit, vegetables, whole grains, legumes - these foods help us reduce our risk of dying from heart disease,"

Dozens of pubs across Western Australia are doing their bit for the Kimberley flood crisis with a fundraiser off the back of the classic chicken dish. 

Liz Bold, ALH Group state manager, told Jo McManus on 6PR Afternoons that, 27 ALH hotels will be donating $2 from every chicken parmigiana sold between January 6th and 15th to the Lord Mayor's Distress Relief Fund.

"Late last week a few of our senior people got together and said I think we should do a bit more, looking at the footprint of where our hotels are placed, we cover a big part of WA so we thought what can we do that every party can take part in," Mr Bold said.

Australia’s leading universities say a redesign of how students are assessed is ‘critical’ in the face of a revolution in computer-generated text, with more students turning to AI software to cheat on their exams.

Toby Walsh, Professor of Artificial Intelligence at the University of New South Wales, told Jo McManus on 6PR Afternoons, that it is the latest 'super-duper chat bot' that allows students to write them an essay on any topic they like.

"It can write a very convincing essay... Software like Turnitin is only checking to see if that particular text is already in use, this is actually making a new text so they won't be able to identify it," Professor Walsh said.

"If we do use these tools, they will become crutches. We won't learn to be literate."

According to the Bureau of Statistics, an army of Australian workers over the age of 65 are marching back to work, pushing the number of pensioners employed beyond pre-pandemic levels.

Breaking the record with 689,000 pensioners employed around Australia, the pandemic, labor shortages and an increase in the amount a pensioner can earn are all contributing factors. 

Ian Henschke, Chief Advocate for National Seniors Australia, told 6PR Afternoons host Jo McManus that Australia should stop looking overseas for workers to fill the labor shortage.

"You are not going to be getting these people to somehow magically fulfill these jobs, why wouldn't you say to an old Australian who wants to keep working, that they can keep working and they can keep their pension but will be taxed," Mr Henschke said.
