This week on The Long Run we chat all things Cape Town Marathon, ask the big question — if you didn’t have to work for a year, how fast could you actually get? We check in on the Aussies competing at the latest Diamond League meet in Xiamen. We also dive into the insanity of The Spine Race, a 430km non-stop ultra across Britain with over 10,000m of elevation, just five aid stations, and conditions ranging from freezing cold to 25°C. Plus, as always, our week of training.
This week on The Long Run we dive into the new Adidas x Satisfy collab before wrapping all the action from the opening round of the Diamond League season, including Lachlan Kennedy’s huge run against one of the deepest sprint fields of the year. We also look at Aussie sprint star Eddie Nketia chasing the national 100m record, unpack the science behind NOMIO recovery shots and their claims around lactate reduction and recovery, Elton sinks Gus’s kit battleships, and as always we finish with our week of training.
This week on The Long Run we unpack the elite race that was Cocodona 250. Plus a recap of the Merewether Mile and a look ahead to the opening round of the Diamond League season as the world’s best athletes chase points and prize money across the globe. We also dive into all things Ultra-Trail Australia, break down the 2027 Western States Golden Ticket schedule, and look at what watches the elites are actually wearing — from Garmin and COROS to a surprise appearance from Samsung. As always, we finish with our week of training.
This week on The Long Run the Legends Backyard Ultra goes to another level, with four runners cracking 100+ laps. Over at the Cocodona 250, the front pack flies through 100 miles in under 19 hours, with just 10 miles separating the top 10 in a stacked field. We have special guest Meg Southcombe online talking all things women in sport, training for more than just physical benefits and a jam packed race schedule over the next few months. As always we finish with our week of training.
This week on The Long Run The London Marathon delivers history — the sub-2 barrier is officially broken. Sebastian Sawe makes history with 1:59:30, while Tigst Assefa headlines an insanely fast women’s race. We break down the performances, the shoes on the podium, and Sawe’s eye-watering 230g carb race-day fueling strategy. We also dive into the new Adidas Adizero Adios Pro Evo 3 — a 97g super shoe claiming a 1.6% efficiency gain — and what it means for the future of racing. Plus, we ask: when do laces disappear? and which brands are actually getting it right? We compare forefoot energy return across top race-day shoes, and wrap it all up with our week of training.
This week on The Long Run we kick things off Around the Track with a stacked weekend of racing — from the Newcastle Marathon to a record-breaking Boston Marathon. In the ultra world, Tim Kaprazak dominates the Sydney Backyard Ultra with 75 yards just weeks after completing an 83-day run streak, while Mark Dowdle takes out the BPN Backyard Ultra. Plus, Ashley Paulson sets a new 100-mile treadmill world record at the Boston Marathon Expo. Elton gives first-run thoughts on the New Balance SuperComp Elite, Angus is forced on a buying ban, we blind rank EVERYTHING, and are shakouts good? As always, we wrap it up with our week of training.
This week on The Long Run we cover a huge week across ultras and track, with the BPN Backyard Ultra down to just 7 runners, The Speed Project solo record is obliterated in 67 hours, and big performances are seen at Desert Rats. On the track, the Australian Athletics Championships delivered chaos and history — from the women’s 1500m controversy to Cam Myers’ near-record run, plus national records falling in the 100m and 200m. We also look at the brutal conditions that ultimately ended Angus’s Arizona Monster 300 race. We unpack the rising cost of race broadcasting after UTMB Tenerife’s cancellation, and what Paris is doing to tackle event waste. To round it out, we break down what an elite 10,000m athletes training week looks like, and as always, our own week of training.
This week on The Long Run we start with a meaningful change from Adidas who’ve launched a single-shoe purchase program so athletes with limb differences can buy the shoe they need at half the retail price. Around the Track we unpack the Six Foot Track Marathon, recap highlights from the Adelaide International athletics meet where Daniel Williams crushed the 800m to become the second-fastest Australian U20 ever, and check in on the Armidale Running Festival and the LA Marathon. We also look ahead to Western States 100, with the field beginning to take shape as returning top-10 finishers and Golden Ticket winners stack what’s already looking like a huge showdown in June. Then we run through the Arizona gear plan before wrapping up with our week of training.
This week we look at the brutal odds of getting into the New York City Marathon with over 240,000 ballot applicants and roughly a 1% success rate. We share first-run impressions of the New Balance Ellipse and Saucony Endorphin Speed 5, before diving into controversy around the LA Marathon and whether it undermines the integrity of the marathon distance. We also compare the stats of the ASICS Superblast 2 and ASICS Superblast 3, debate the best dog breed for a running companion, and touch on a new shoe release from Adidas. In Coach’s Corner we break down a session of 800m and 400m, and as always, we finish with our week of training.
