A disgraced football player, Paul Crewe (Burt Reynolds), spirals out of control and lands himself in prison. Once there, a delusional warden (Eddie Albert) forces Crewe to train a group of inmates to take on the guards led by Captain Knauer (Ed Lauter). The warden wants these inmates to feel the pain of the game and to obey his authority without question. The warden is a metaphor for everyone’s life! Stick it to the warden and live free!
