The first 22 years of the twenty-first century have seen a major decline in the presence of rock bands and artists gracing the pop charts. This has led a lot of people to utter the statement; "rock is dead".
But is it?  If it isn't where did it go? Where is all the great guitar-driven music that used to populate the charts and mainstream/corporate radio?
On this week's Loudini Rock & Roll Circus, Independence Day edition, we will do a deep dive into the state of rock in the third decade of the twenty-first century and answer the questions where is rock? Why did it disapear (for the most part ) from pop radio? Can it ever come back?
Check out the podcast here  https://app.talkshoe.com/episode/19947844
    Topics Discussed:
The day the music died (not the first time rock has "died")
The perfect storm that allowed rock to flourish
music business and audio technology business... are the same business i.e. RCA
Follow the leader..rock so called "Changing tastes"  grunge  rap & hip hop
     MTV stops playing music videos
    Enter "big tech"
     high speed internet
     mp3
     "piracy ruined my band"
     massive revenue  dries up
the labels are too short sighted...or are they???
the wild west and the "democratization" of the music business

    Socio-political changes

     the Berlin wall
     911
    corporate consolidation

    Music becomes cheap and easy

    no danger

massive increase in concert ticket prices

the smart phone ...the giant step backwards

rock goes underground and it's EVERYWHERE!

what can we do to help rock survive and thrive

should we just let it go?

  • Rival Sons Great Western Valkyrie (Album Retrospective)

    #rivalsons #ledzeppelin #jaybuchanan

In 2014 while a lot of bands were producing hip-hop flavored rock and nu-metal, there were a few select bands who reminded us why we fell in love with rock and roll in the first place. Rival Son's was one of those bands.
Check out the podcast here  https://app.talkshoe.com/episode/19733869
Their fourth album, Great Western Valkyrie came crashing onto the rock scene like a steam locomotive bearing down our backs and thundering in our ears. The loud open drum sound and cranked-up fuzz-driven guitar riffs took us back to a "better time" in music but with both feet firmly planted in the 21st century.

On the Loudini Rock & Rock Roll Circus podcast we will do a deep dive into Rival Sons' Great Western Valkyrie and find out what made it an instant classic.

The topic of war has been the subject of hundreds of rock and metal songs over the years. However, there are far fewer truly great songs about the men and women who were unfortunate enough to have to fight and die in the many wars that have happened in the past 70 years or so since rock music became popular.
On this Memorial Day, the Loudini Rock & Roll Circus podcast pays our respects to those who have served in the armed forces.
