What if leisure isn't an escape from reality, but a deeper entrance into it? In this session, Jimmy Mitchell explores leisure as an antidote to busyness, workaholism, entertainment, and the noise that keeps us from receiving the world as it really is. Drawing on his experiences as a missionary in Honduras, the poetry of Gerard Manley Hopkins, and the philosophy of Joseph Pieper, he explores aesthetic, philosophical, social, and religious forms of leisure and their power to restore wonder and contemplation. Ultimately, leisure teaches us to remember that we are human beings before we are human doings—and that our work itself should ultimately lead us toward prayer, rest, and God.
