In this week’s portion, the tribes of Reuben, Gad, and the half tribe of Manasseh tell Moses that they don’t want to cross the Jordan. After Moses rebukes them, the men agree to go over and fight, but ask to leave the women and children behind. In this conversation, the priority of caring for the children is revealed as less important to these tribes than their desire to increase material wealth. What are your priorities?
