August 7, 2024 ~ Lucy Ann Lance talks with Dr. Krystin Gregory, Medical Director of Behavioral Health at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan. Grief is a natural response to significant loss, such as the death of a loved one or job loss, and varies for each individual. Common signs in the first six months include shock, disbelief, anxiety, anger, sadness, and changes in sleep and appetite. Most people recover within a year, but 7-10% may experience complicated grief, which hinders daily functioning. Types of grief include complicated, anticipatory, abbreviated, delayed, cumulative, collective, and traumatic grief.
