  • Glenn Loury: The Problem is Freedom

I'm told this is a speech from the Towards the Common Good: Rethinking Race in the 21st Century conference.

Glenn undersells the problem somewhat.  I do not know his motive for doing so, but I refuse to do the same.

  • One Casualty of Censorship

One casualty of censorship is certainty. Covid, election integrity, whatever. Don't let people shame you for being uncertain in a time and place where KNOWING is prohibited.

I bought a pistol safe off a guy on facebook marketplace.

MLK, 1967: "the West must support these revolutions." We have a "mobid fear of communism."

“This manslaughter must be stopped. You are losing; if you persist, it will only result in greater bloodshed. Hitler is not a bad man.” -Gandhi

  • The Woke Showed Their Characteristic Intolerability in a Debate

Konstantin Kisin impressed at the Oxford Union, powerfully arguing that wokeness has misdirected the energies of young leftists away from production or discovery and toward protesting and defacing.

The opposing side all but disqualified itself by in one case dressing like a, er, lady of the evening, drinking too much, and saying that people deserve it for daring to express quite popular but non-woke views in public.

  • Now We're Cooking with Gas!

“This book is dedicated to the people of America--strong, outspoken, intense in their convictions, sometimes wrong-headed but always generous and brave, with a passion for justice no nation has ever matched.” ― Paul Johnson, A History of the American People

A Biden appointee has floated the idea of banning gas stoves. The problem? Everyone likes gas stoves.

"Why have a long-range manageable population problem that can be coped with gradually over generations when, with a little extra souped-up scare rhetoric, we can drum up a full-fledged crisis? We certainly need one; it’s been months since we’ve had a crisis." -Ben Wattenberg, 1970, "The Nonsense Explosion"

  • There's Starving Kids in Africa & Other News

I believe that it is both foolish and wicked to have children by men without having considered even for a second or a fraction of a second whether the men have any qualities that might make them good fathers. Mistakes are possible, of course: a man may turn out not to be as expected. But not even to consider the question is to act as irresponsibly as it is possible for a human being to act. It is knowingly to increase the sum of evil in the world, and sooner or later the summation of small evils leads to the triumph of evil itself. –Theodore Dalrymple

A six-year-old has shot his teacher in the chest. Supposedly, this is a problem with guns. But I don't think so.

Dr. Scott Gottlieb of Pfizer sought Twitter censorship of critics of his company's vaccine. And got it. And now is playing the victim!

An assertion of fact in whose contradiction no one would for a moment believe is not worth making. –Theodore Dalrymple

  • Prince Harry is Whining Again Why Why Why

The theory that rape has nothing to do with sex may be more plausible to a gender to whom a desire for impersonal sex with an unwilling stranger is too bizarre to contemplate. -Stephen Pinker

The other day was the first time in American history that a trans "woman" was offed by the state. The left was mad as they always are when a great villain is put down, but the interesting moment came when we were told we had to respect the now-deceased rapist-murderer. I mean how absurd can the left make itself?

The House is voting a bunch for a speaker and this is a big deal because of reasons.

Prince Harry has a new tell-all out. It tells about his penis and how he was once attacked by his brother. And I'm left with only one question. Why aren't we taking everyone who cares about Prince Harry News and shipping them off to Australia? We do not need these people.

Liberalism was inevitably displaced by radicalism; radicalism had to surrender to socialism; and socialism could never resist communism. –Solzhenitsyn

  • Misinformation Bans Make Toadies of Men

"It is easier to forgive the evil done to others than to forgive the evil done to oneself, especially if in the first place we don't really like those others to whom the evil is done." -Theodore Dalrymple

The NFL's Damar Hamlin, 24, has collapsed on the field. All the medical professionals on Twitter quickly reassured us with their instant diagnoses which were arrayed in only safe directions. It was made clear speculation other than by them, and in those directions was beyond the pale.

A Yale female professor, a professoress if you will, has declared that capitalism is ruining her students' lives. Unfortunately for them, I gather, these students were not born in Cambodia just before the fall of Phnom Penh so they could experience the lack of capitalism vividly.

Piglet said that what they were trying to do was, they were trying to think of a way to get the bounces out of Tigger, because however much you liked him, you couldn’t deny it, he DID bounce. “There’s too much of him,” said Rabbit, “that’s what it comes to.” -A. A. Milne

  • I Can't Stop Eating

No quotes this episode as I read a really long excerpt.

I shoveled my driveway and so I can't stop eating.

It's so odd that at the precise moment when it became EASY to only have children under ideal circumstances (the introduction of the pill), everyone decided to have illegitimate children.

I read the introduction to my favorite nonfiction book "Life at the Bottom" by Dalrymple.

  • Twitter Files Comes for Biden

The conflation of victimhood with virtue was a grave mistake. –(Psychotherapist) Seerut Chawla

NY Governor Hochul says Buffalo is "a war zone."

Brittney Griner's story has, mercifully, ended. But it is a pretty funny one.

Joe Biden's White House has lobbied to have Americans deplatformed.  This is a major scandal.

“When I am weaker than you, I ask you for freedom because that is according to your principles; when I am stronger than you, I take away your freedom because that is according to my principles.” ―Frank Herbert
