It's not.  Slavery is Jim Crow on steroids.

The Vermont governor tweeted an offer of vaccinations to black people before white people.  In what world is that not a massive news story captivating the nation??  Ours, evidently.

I'm seeing more and more conspiracy theories on the right.  In the thirty minutes before I went to record, I saw that the jab contains "a radio transmitter and receiver."  And a well-known rightwinger said "I will never get a COVID vaccine."

Saying it's not worth it for someone to get the vaccine because they're young and the threat is small is one thing.  Saying you'd never get it -- and not just the three available but any potential one in the future -- is irrational.

Vaccines are great.  Be rational, don't invent fears.

A man shot and killed eight in Atlanta.  The man's comments lead me to believe he is insane as well as evil (you can be both).  He said he killed the people because massage parlors tempt him sexually, which makes no sense at all.  Also, one libelous person, no doubt of great wisdom and worth, on Periscope says I'm defending a terrorist because I say it doesn't appear to be racially motivated.

A man killed a 75-year-old Asian man in Oakland.  A man who raped and murdered a toddler was released at the age of 47.  A panhandler beat a Brooklyn with a bat so badly that he now requires some sort of breathing apparatus.  An Oklahoma man killed three and ate one of their hearts after getting released early from prison.

What do they all have in common?  1) The suspects should all have never been released.  2) Each of these cases are as uninteresting to the national news media as if you said you fell down on an uneven sidewalk and scuffed your knee.

Interestingly, many diseases have been falling for longer than we had vaccines or even treatments for them.  The reason?  Mostly sanitation and bug extermination.  Plumbers, civil engineers, and exterminators have done more to lengthen life than doctors have.

All of human history has been ravaged by communicable disease.  To give a pretty typical year, about 500/100,000 people died in NYC in 1849 of TB.  In the US in the past year, about 160/100,000 people have died of Covid.

But people in the past didn't panic at this -- it was simply normal.  Perhaps that's our future:  Things are unbelievably good and safe, and we all are clutching our knees in a corner, shaking in fear.
