Texas State Representative James Talarico has gained attention for presenting himself as a Christian while making bold claims about what the Bible supposedly teaches about abortion, sexuality, and even the nature of God. But do those claims actually hold up when we look carefully at Scripture?
In this episode of The Mamapologist, we examine several of Talarico’s most widely shared arguments—including the idea that life begins with the “breath of life,” that Mary’s consent supports abortion rights, that God is non-binary, and that the Bible doesn’t address homosexuality. We look at the passages he references, explore the context of those scriptures, and compare them with the broader teaching of the Bible.
More importantly, this conversation highlights why biblical literacy matters. When Christians don’t know Scripture well, it becomes much easier for verses to be taken out of context or reshaped to fit modern ideas. But when we understand the full story of the Bible, we can recognize the difference between what Scripture actually says and what people claim it says.
If you care about truth, thoughtful faith, and learning to read the Bible more carefully, this episode is for you.
