The Mamaste Podcast

Samara Andreadis is a doula at the Orchid Nest in Delray Beach, Florida. Samara and I have a lot of mutual friends because she is the doula "for everyone" at Eleanor's school. I had not direct connection to her so I started to tell our mutual friends to ask her for me to be on my podcast and finally we were in the same place at the same time and I got to officially ask if she wanted to be on the podcast and she said, "No." No not at all, she said, "Yes!" and I was so excited. I was expecting to have a little more time to do some research on her and doulas in general but as soon as I asked she was sitting at my kitchen the next week recording a podcast and it felt like we had known each other for years. I hope you enjoy this wonderful episode with this wonderful person that I am just going to start calling my friend so we can be friends.

I am so happy to welcome Lizzie Assa from The Workspace for Children on the podcast today.It was truly an honor to get to talk to Lizzie. We talk about how play has changed as her children have grown, how to create your own  children workspace and some of the challenges with open ended play. Play based learning is very important to me so it’s amazing to talk to someone else that also has a passion for play and to see where she has taken it.

Alexander Ocampo is a Family Medicine Physician at Fenway Health in Boston Massachusetts which was founded with the mission to serve the local LGBT population.

Today on the podcast we talk about explaining the concept of gender identity to kids, accepting yourself in order to serve others and how amazing Pose is (are you watching it, if not what are you waiting for?!) Nel Shelby and Christopher Duggan are powerhouse videographer and photographer as well as husband and wife. I interned for Nel at Jacob's Pillow in the summer of 2006 when I was 19. When I got engaged 4 year later I immediately knew I wanted Christopher to photograph my wedding. Nel and Christopher have always been so open and honest about work and life. It was amazing to catch up what they are up to now professional and personally. I truly admire their passion, work ethic and creativity.

Today I got to sit down with my Mom and talk about her professional career. After we were done she asked me “Did anything surprise you?” I said, “No.” Most of the stories she shares are things I have heard my whole life but it does not mean I did not like to hear them laid out in a semi chronological way. We talk about her professional career as a market researcher and adjunct professor. We also delve into how she balanced her work and family obligations.

On episode 38 of the Mamaste Podcast I welcome back Mia O’Malley, @miaomalley on Instagram. She joined us on episode 16 “Love at Every Size with Mia O’Malley” so check that out if you have not already listening it.

In this episode we talk about representation, fat positivity and perception vs reality. Mia does not see herself as a fashion influencer and yet that is some of her most popular content. Mia recently got the opportunity to model on the Today show (where she killed it) but she also got to briefly talk about the difficulties of shopping online if you are fat and how basically you are charged a fat tax.

I went to high school with Mia and have always idolized her for speaking her mind. Mia cares so strongly about her plus size community and her Instagram account bleeds that. I look forward to every chance I get to connect with her.
