The Mana Pool

The dorks are back with another non-Magic episode! This time we're talking about music, and this episode, as it is with all the good ones, ended up being more about us than the topic at hand. We'll discuss our history with music, the stuff we like, the stuff we don't like, what we use music for, our history with live music, all kinds of neat stuff.

Also, Chewie announces the dissolution of the TMP Facebook page and the TMP website, but everything else will stay the same. Just trimming away excess work to focus on the important parts!

The dorks are back with another surprise news-related episode! Wizards made a massive announcement about upcoming products that are branded with non-Magic properties. The two examples given were Warhammer 40K and...Lord of the Rings? Whaaaaa?

So the dorks spend an entire episode discussing this, figuring out what it could mean for the future, and trying to come up with more properties that could totally be turned into Magic products. And Dirk reveals a potentially unhealthy obsession with Planechase...

The dorks are back with...Monday Night Magic? Wait, this can't be right, let me go look.

Yeah, the dorks are actually looking at the news! First up, WotC swung their banhammer wide, with a massive pile of casualties across many many formats. Holy crap.

And then there was actual timely news! The day of recording, WotC unexpectedly revealed some information about the next set, Strixhaven. They explained what the five schools of magic are and showed us a Command from each school. Yup, that kind of Command.

The dorks are back on card games this week! We begin by taking a look at a very important nugget of information hidden in an advertisement - the first time a ban was announced somewhere other than, you know, a ban announcement. Then we're changing gears to talk about what could very well be the biggest news Hearthstone has ever seen. Then we shift into high gear to do a Magic Mad Lib with Twitch Chat!

This is our first non-Magic podcast episode! To help us out on this momentous occasion, we are joined by Squee, formerly of Monday Night Magic. We're taking a look at remakes, reboots, remasters, rereleases, and legacy sequels across several different media - movies, tv shows, and video games. First up we try to define what we mean by all of these different varieties and then discuss why they might be made in the first place. Then the five of us go over many (many) examples across all of those to try to determine what makes one good or bad.

This was a fun discussion with quite a few twists, turns and tangents (of course). Let us know what you thought! And if you have any ideas for topics for other non-MTG episodes, be sure to let us know!

The dorks head back into Kaldheim to check out all the Sagas that we just missed during the last two episodes. Some of these are absolutely ridiculous, while the rest are just...well, pretty good actually. The art though! The Saga art is AMAZING in this set!

Of course we also bounce around the rest of the card image gallery to find other neat stuff to talk about, and answer some questions from Twitch chat as usual. And we pitch an idea for the first non-Magic TMP episode of 2021 that we'll be doing next week!

The dorks return to the Kaldheim Card Image Gallery and continue poking around at the awesome stuff inside. There's a brand new Vampire Dragon (Dragon Vampire?) that makes Brian extremely happy. There's a whole new pantheon of Gods to discuss, a whole mess of weird creatures to fear, the Snow Figure of Destiny to freak out about, and a land that REALLY pisses off our old buddy Xenagos.

After not recording a show for a solid month the dorks are finally back! And we're taking a look at Kaldheim for the first time! We'll hit the mechanics first and then bounce around the Card Image Gallery talking about whatever new cards catch our eye! Planeswalkers, snow, gods, a legendary squirrel? What a weird set.

This was recorded six months ago on Dec 17, 2020. It was recorded on Chewie's old laptop because the dead computer. It was supposed to get posted a few days later, but then I was delayed because of putting the new computer together, and then getting bummed out, and then getting distracted, and then holidays, and and and. But here it is now!

Chewie tells the tale of December, that has focused all of its 2020 wrath on him at once. We reflect on the frustrations that come from watching our fellow humans not take the massive global pandemic seriously. We all share personal stories of what this horrible hell year has been like for us. We head into Magic territory to discuss what WotC has been up to this year and why that's got us all vaguely (or in one case, specifically) disillusioned with it. Then we turn to the current political landscape in the US, but luckily not for long. Then we look at what we would all like for 2021 to make it a better year for everyone.

Sorry for not getting this out in 2020, but crap happens and decided to happen to me. I hope you're all being safe in 2021 since this first week has been the longest 3 months ever.

After a long delay, both intentional and not, this episode is finally here! This was recorded way back on the 10th of December, but Chewie's computer died on the evening of the 11th. It took a while, but it was finally resurrected just in time for the holidays and the obligatory no-man's land between Christmas and New Year's, with some of Chewie's life trying to fall apart in the meantime. But here we go, with another episode to follow soon after!

Welcome back to Trivester! When we last left our heroes they had been reunited, discovered that one of their number was apparently afflicted with some kind of vampiric curse, and learned some fancy new abilities from some conspicuously glowing books. In this episode, we learn more about Karim's condition, venture back out into the village, and defend it against an attack by a pack of creatures that seem to be...dire wolves? How will our party protect the village? And which of us will learn a powerful new ability?
