The Mana Pool

Chewie, Mike, Brian, and Dirk have been talking about Magic: The Gathering on the internet for almost 10 years (at the time of this writing). Since there are so many shows about strategy and tournaments, these dorks focus on all the fun you can have with the game outside of that, from flavor to philosophy to game design to history to whatever else we can come up with. We're funny, we're serious about what we do, and we love it!

This episode begins with a discussion of the new Commander rules change that eliminates tucking and bouncing of Commanders. The dorks are split for and against this particular change, let us know how you feel about it!

Next up is a Mythic Conscription for the next set in the Tempest block - Stronghold! This is a seriously strange set, as each of us had trouble actually finding ten mythics! But the discussion is really interesting and entertaining. Let us know what you think should or should not have been mythic!

And finally, the dorks tell you all about their Prerelease experiences! Brian and Mike did two apiece and Chewie did one, so you'll get to hear all about that! What did you play and how did you do?

This episode the dorks are joined by an old friend - Eric of Many Names! (@EricMTGCast on Twitter) He used to hold the record for most guest appearances on the show (until Bill gradually stole it from him), and he's back this week to talk about Dragons of Tarkir! Rather than do the usual thing where we just pick cards we like seemingly at random, Brian had a neat idea. We're each going to create a pack of cards from the set - 9 commons, 3 uncommons, 1 rare, and a "foil" that can be anything. All five of us made up a pack, and there wasn't as much overlap as you might think! So get ready for a massive dose of Dragons with our friendly voice from the past!

Of course we're gonna talk about all the news that came out of the Magic panel at PAX East! As usual, they dropped quite a few bombs on us, so we're gonna tell you all about it! If you'd like to see more about it, check out the latest TMP News so Chewie can tell you all about it with visual accompaniment!

Since the last episode, almost HALF of Dragons of Tarkir has been revealed! Since there were WAY too many cards to actually cover them all, we just hit the big awesome important things. Mythics, awesome cycles, and a few others that jumped out at us.

Chewie finally got the Patreon finished! If you want to help support the show a little bit at a time, that's the best way to go about it! You can find it here: https://www.patreon.com/themanapool

This is a look at all things Magic: The Gathering, brought to you with humor and a touch of evil. We focus mainly on what makes the game fun, from Multiplayer to flavor to general nonsense. Sponsored by Cardshark.com

Since neverending preview season is upon us yet again, we're taking a look at the first batch of new cards from Dragons of Tarkir. Previews just started the day before we recorded, so there aren't terribly many yet. Don't worry though, we'll make up for that on the next couple episodes.

Because we were so short on previews, we had to fill the time with something. Last week they announced Tempest Remastered for Magic Online, so what better way to finish the episode than to run a Mythic Conscription on Tempest? We couldn't think of anything better either, so that's what we did! Man, old Magic sets are SO incredibly bizarre by today's standards.

This episode was recorded at Brian's house last weekend! And thank goodness it was, because we didn't record a new episode this week because Chewie got sick and died. How convenient!

But yes, in this extra-long episode we play two games of four-player Commander! Nothing fancy this time, no Planechase, no Archenemy, no Tiny Leaders, no Assassin. Just good old EDH at its best! The first game was really good, while the second game was a normal good. It was not one of those bad drag-on games that we sometimes accidentally record. There's really not much else to say, we hope you guys enjoy these games as much as we did!
