The Mariner

The Mariner Podcast #53: E is for Estimated Position Error

Listen Later

In this episode we explore Estimated Position Error as a improving function of the 5,000 year history of Navigation.

While today's nav technology would be considered witchcraft 1000 years ago, everything we have now is built on the hard work and incredible bravery of millions of mariners who pushed the edges of what was possible with the tools of their time. This week I discuss the steps that led us from Gnomon to Non-Terrestrial Hyperbolic Trilateration (!) and what problems there may be with trusting today's tech too much.
