In 1970, Bob Sykes had a stroke and his son, 15-year-old Van Sykes, dropped out of high school. Because of this, Van's mom, Maxine, felt that Van had missed out on his childhood. Between that time and now, there were many lessons to be learned, including serving in the U.S. Air Force, but through it all, Van stayed true to his roots. Five decades of BBQ and relationships later, Van carries on the family tradition. On tonight's show, Van is sharing about his 65 year family tradition of Bob Sykes BBQ as well as his new book titled, "From the Pit to the Plate" and his effort to give back to the community through the Bob Sykes BBQ & Blues Festival. I hope that you will not only listen, but share this show with others!
