A decade ago, Donna Brown of Tuscaloosa, Alabama, reluctantly went to the ER because of the severe pain she had been experiencing. She was convinced it was a kidney stone. The doctor came in to examine her and he confirmed that a kidney stone was likely. After that, she was sent for a CT scan to see where the stone was. After the scan, the doctor told her it was not a kidney stone, but very enlarged lymph nodes in my abdomen and a mass on her ovary. It was either Lymphoma or ovarian cancer. The next 10 days in the hospital completely changed the rest of her life. It was stage 4 Non- Hodgkin's Lymphoma. Donna said, “By God's grace the chemo worked as my wonderful oncologist hoped. Even he was surprised that my cancer went into remission after those 8 rounds of chemo. I had so, so many amazing brethren praying for me and God heard and answered. So...10 years. Cancer changes you. In so many more ways than I could have ever guessed.“
On this edition of TMWS, I will be talking to Donna about those changes and the challenges she still faces 10 years later. We’ll also talk about the support she has received throughout the journey.
My other guests will be Larry Hollandsworth of Florence, Alabama, who has organized a wheel chair accessible van fundraiser for Hannah and the Owens family as well as Makayla “Mak” Clows of Columbus, Georgia, to talk about a fundraising effort for the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) and a special walk she is going to participate in this month!
