Rory McIlroy has joined an elite group of just six golfers to have captured all four major championships after defeating Justin Rose in a one-hole playoff on Sunday to capture the 89th Masters Tournament.

In a wild and dramatic day, McIlroy missed the chance to win when he bogeyed the 72nd hole - when a simple par would've been enough to capture the green jacket. Instead, the 35-year-old Irishman headed back to the 18th tee alongside Justin Rose. McIlroy made birdie after Rose had to settle for par.

McIlroy now stands with Gene Sarazen, Ben Hogan, Jack Nicklaus, Gary Player and Tiger Woods as the only men to win all of golf's modern major.

On Saturday, Rory McIlroy picked up right where he left off a day earlier, opening his third round at Augusta National Golf Club with an unprecedented string of six straight 3s on the scorecard. And for the second straight day, the 35-year-old Irishman ended his round with a six-under 66. 

McIlroy sits at -12 -- two shots better than Bryson DeChambeau - heading into Sunday's final round.

Justin Rose is the leader after 36 holes of the 89th Masters Tournament, but his lead is just one shot over Bryson DeChambeau and two shots over Rory McIlroy and Corey Conners.

McIlroy carded a 66 on Friday - including a scorching 31 on the second nine - as he followed up an even-par opening round that ended poorly with a great second 18.

2022 Masters champion Scottie Scheffler fired a one-under 71 to take a one-stroke lead over Colin Morikawa heading into the final round at Augusta National.

Scottie Scheffler was his usual calm, dominant self on Sunday at Augusta National, finishing with a final-round 68 to win his second Masters overall, after winning back in 2022.

Scheffler finished at 11-under for the tournament, four shots better than Sweden's Ludvig Åberg.

Bryson DeChambeau is the overnight leader at the Masters, having carded an opening-round 65. He's one shot ahead of Scottie Scheffler and two better than Denmark's Nicolai Højgaard, who finished his day at five-under through 15 holes.

Tiger Woods was in one of the day's final groups and is one-under, but was only able to complete 13 holes.
