The exercise from chapter 18 was so good that we just had to talk about it before moving on to 19. “Concentrate on your power to create.” Can you see it in your mind’s eye? Do you believe it? What does it mean to you? How will you use it? Wow…the possibilities!!!

This exercise was actually a powerful segue into chapter 19 as it talks about the proper kind of “mental food” that fuels a powerful thought process. Fear is a powerful form of thought…is that the kind of power we want to operate from?  Of course not! So, how do we change fear into a consciousness of our real power?

True understanding of any principle doesn’t come from just reading or hearing the words. It comes from studying the words, applying them to our lives, putting them to the test until we arrive at the conclusion for ourselves that they are true. The choice is ours—will we manifest good in our lives by choosing a higher character of thought, or will we settle for “what is” by choosing not to expand our understanding of laws or to put ourselves in harmony with them.

In “The Strangest Secret,” Earl Nightingale shares this story:  “Some years ago, the late Nobel prize-winning Dr. Albert Schweitzer was asked by a reporter, ‘Doctor, what’s wrong with men today?’ The great doctor was silent a moment, and then he said, ‘Men simply do not think!’”

Conversely, Charles Haanel states “You will readily see that what we think determines the quality of mind, and that the quality of mind in turn determines our ability and mental capacity, and you can readily understand that the improvement in our ability will naturally be followed by increase in attainment and a greater control of circumstances.”

When we look at all the facets of our lives, it can seem overwhelming. It makes the idea of learning something new seem daunting and maybe even impossible. When we can understand that all areas of life can be centered around one solid foundation, it makes everything else easier to understand and incorporate, and this makes success not only possible but also probable.
