We review postnatal care of anal sphincter injury with Dr Maeve Eogan, Consultant Obstetrician & Gynaecologist at the Rotunda Hospital in Dublin. Maeve runs the Compicated Post-Natal Clinic at the Rotunda. 

Maeve gives a comprehensive review of this subject, including surgical repair of perineal tears, post-op management of complications including pain, infection and dehiscence, dyspareunia, considerations for subsequent pregnancies, and of course the GP role in all of the above. Maeve also provides additional resources and gives some tips on how best to use your local maternity centre as a resource, as well as when to refer.
